So, the "dumbest battle in history" is not the "dumbest battle", after all. In fact, I would not even call it a "battle", since it was just two regiments firing a few shots at each other and then retreating together. Still, I much appreciate that you took the time to find out the facts about this matter, M. Laser History. It is always better to know the truth than rely on fiction, not matter how dull or unentertaining the truth may be.

The figure of ten thousand casualties is plausible - if you include dead, wounded and missing - and if most of the missing were deserters. It's quite common for large numbers of soldiers to desert during a retreat. If soldiers get the idea that they're being led by a bunch of numpties, the temptation to make oneself scarce might be irresistible.

Especially true at a time when a significant percentage of the army doesn't really think of themselves as part of the national entity that's nominally in charge of them. People aren't keen to risk death in defense of someone else's army.

Probably not as none of the sources from that year mention Gypsies or Hussars, in fact the first mentions of them comes only in around mid 19th century, so we can presume those parts where made up.

Nice video, it's always better to know sources and opinion from more than 1 side to prevent BIAS. BTW, could you maybe do a video about Ernst Gideon von Laudon, we learn about him as one of the most famous generals of 18th century, but in reality not many people outside of the formal Austrian states ever heard of him, maybe because of BIAS against Austrian military history or maybe because of low attention to Austrian military history at schools. It is a shame as he was truly one of the greatest military leaders of 18th century, Frederick the Great himself feared him. :)

Austrian Army: Trust no one, not even yourself!!! But seriously, the two more realistic accounts of what happened seem to be more embarrassing for the Austrians because in the over dramatized one the army at least had the excuse of being drunk. But here the army just ran into each other, completely sober, and attacked each other like some kind of cartoon.😹😹😹

The version I heard was that it was Croatians and Serbs fighting over barrels of schnapps which escalated to a full blown battle.

The version Im familiar with has these dragoons buying the liqouer from these merchants gypsies close to the armys encampment after the sun sets. After a couple of barrels with schnapps and song, theres a quarrel between the soldiers. Someone fires in the dark. Soon to be followed by orders bein shouted such as "Halt", which is confused with "Allah" from a distance. Sounds of guns goin off echoe in the valley and when someone fires a cannon into own troops, and then allout chaos and panic ensues.

Possibly, there are so many iterations on the story that at this point everyone knows a slightly different version. I presented one of these versions in my first video and this video was to actually track down what really happened, which as you saw wasn't as bad as it is made out to be today.

I'm wondering if this battle occured during the 18th century because back then it would've been easier to spot the Ottomans. The fact that the Austrians shot each other was a bit dumb though, how could they not notice the uniforms of their regiments. It might be a quarter master's clusterfuck as every region has one but there has to be a design similarity.
