@@Be_Honest_Not_Afraid Don't put too much reliance on the pitch track graphic. It is often inaccurate. The first pitch was borderline and the pitches to Cabrera, Martinez and Kinsler were clearly strikes. At the 4:34 mark the asshole announcers say the pitch was low when the graphic, which you rely upon so much, show the pitch touched the zone, which makes it a strike. Everitt was consistent all night and the Tigers should be swinging instead of crying.

The greatest sin an ump can commit is inconsistency - the sports casters kept saying that he was giving the low strike to both sides. As long as an ump is consistent odds are he won't get into any trouble with the league. Everett gave the tigers plenty of chance to argue but enough was enough, and so he started giving the quick hook. The umpire did a good job and I don't know why so many people are talking trash about him.

The sad thing is most of these were borderline, and I'd probably call them strikes as I have a large strike zone. If the ball is touching the zone, then it's probably a strike from me. This Ump has a large zone as well, and all of these calls were close. Was he swayed by the catcher? Maybe. So what if he was? Catchers frame for a reason. For that exact reason, actually. The main question is if he was consistent, which he was.
@SkinnyCow.8 жыл бұрын
The strike zone should be a defined area with no "interpretation" that way everyone can play according to the same rules.
@maxcrss28458 жыл бұрын
SkinnyCow The strike zone IS set. However, some umpires think that most of the ball has to be in the strike zone, or all of the ball has to be in the strike zone. There are others who think that the ball touching the strike zone is a strike.

stevenparker518 I personally think that's a little too liberal with the strike zone. I like it if the center of the ball passes the edge of the strike zone then it's a strike, or if it's close on a pitch running towards the zone.

I didn't have a problem with the first ejection. Look, the call might be wrong, but as the announcers said, he let Martinez say his piece, in the middle of an at bat, for something like 20-25 seconds. At some point, you have to resume the game. Martinez disagreed with the call, and the umpire let him have his say, and eventually asked him to get back in the box. Both parties were calm, but the game needs to proceed. A strike one call in the third inning of a 3-1 game with the bases empty is not something that should require several minutes of arguing. It got very comical at the end there, but that first one is on Martinez.

Ok I'm from Seattle. No dog in this fight. That umpire is screwing the Tigers over big time. The entire Detroit team should have just left the ballpark and leave that incompetent umpire out there to feel the wrath of the Detroit fans. He's obviously a graduate of the Angel Hernandez School of Blind Umpiring. C.B. Bucknor is the vice president of the school and Joe West is the visiting Professor of Power Trips.

That's the one rule that I hate, that you can't argue balls and strikes. Thrown pitches are completely a judgement call by the home plate umpire, and when pitches are clearly out of the strike zone, and still called a strike, well, I can see why batters get upset. Then, if you argue too much, then the umpire takes it personally, and could possibly call strikes out of spite, which then gets a game totally out of control. Then, the issue of physical contact, the batter involved in an argument, can't touch the home plate umpire, yet another umpire can physically restrain the batter. Sounds like a double standard.

i think there is more to this than just whats going on in the video. yes every ump has their own strike zone but i think his was way to low. you cant adjust to pitches that low. the ump was totally wrong but the players where so pissed to begin with that it just got way out of hand

Codi Sheppard, do you even know where the bottom of the strike zone is?

I love how most players would be in the umps face but Victor just puts his hands behind his back
@davidrooks32745 жыл бұрын
he was in the umps face, the fact that he put his hands behind his back doesn't change that
