I am a lifelong resident of Windsor, Ontario which is just across the border from Detroit. I was only 12 years old in 1984 but because my dad was and is such a huge Tiger's fan, I remember the year so well. It was one of the highlights of my childhood years and it was a lot of fun even in here in Canada!

Padres have made two WS in their history (as of the end of the 2022 season), and both times they lost to two teams that are in the discussion of greatest teams of all time = 1984 Tigers and 1998 Yankees Padres still the only California team to never win a WS (as of the end of the 2022 season)

When Garvey hit that HR - it was an explosion heard for miles around the stadium. It was voted SD's #1 all time sports moment. Game 5 Durham was the goat...not the GOAT. Buckner saved him 2 years later. I went to both games in Chicago: The Cubs fans stole hats and pennants from our traveling fans and burned them in the stands; they threw a smoke bomb near Tony Gwynn; they mocked the death of Ray Kroc after game 2. Karma is a bitch. Side note: I was at the airport and saw Reggie Jackson who was working as an analyst for ABC. I went up to him to sign a baseball and he told me to stand around the corner so no not to attract atttention...Yes...Reggie Jackson said he did not want to attract attention. :)

So we could have had very early daygame World Series in 1984 if the Cubs had beaten the Padres Although it wouldnt have surprised me if MLB told the Cubs to play their World Series home games in the WSOX stadium to be able to have nightgames

They more than likely would have installed lights at Wrigley.
