Parks were bigger, yes! But, modern pitching is tougher!

There are no Kofax, Gibson, Drysdale, Ford, or Ryans. Thosee guys pitched compplete games. Now they only throw 100 pitches. Pussies

Modern pitching is weak, starters barely pitch 5 innings. You can't name 10 premiere pitchers today.
@yosefyahu47783 ай бұрын
@@joseburgos9654 You may be right! However, Velocity is up and except for the fork ball and knuckle ball not being used, it's harder to decipher what's coming! The pitch clock is to blame for pitchers not lasting more than 5 innings! You get no rest between pitches! They have ruined baseball with all these playoff and regulation changes!

Comparing players from different eras is a fool's errand. The game is completely different.

I agree with Russo about the All-Star game uniforms. It's better to see the mix of all the different team uniforms. What they could do is put something on the shirt sleeves to indicate American or National.

Judge 4-5 yrs with moderate similar numbers 40+ 💣 125 rbi. He'll be up there with jeter. He gotta win at least 2 💍 tho. He in the triple 👑 running too.

JUDGE HASN'T DONE SHIT IN THE POSTSEASON EVER. DON'T DARE COMPARE THIS PLAYER TO DIMAGGIO OR MANTLE.

He had a great postseason in 2017 and a spectacular one in 2018. Your memory is faulty.

Agree. DiMaggio n Mantle were better

Joe Dimaggio has a career post season batting average of .271 with a .760 OPS. Not sure where the notion is coming from that he was tearing it up every post season, he wasn't. Aaron Judge currently has a career post season OPS of .772. Mickey Mantle produced in the post season, but even he only had a .257 career post season batting average. More than 40 points below his career average. Neither one of those players was facing a fresh pitcher throwing in the upper 90's practically every inning after the 3rd like they do now in the postseason.

My hypothesis for judges bad performance in the 2022 postseason is that he was hurt... maybe just mentally tired from the chase. I mean you know what happened to Maris. And his postseason was just as bad.

Plus he obviously uses PED's. The guy looks like the hulk.

Love the Yankees, but slow down on Judge's comparison with legends. The legends didn't breakdown like these modern "greats" do today. They played hurt and with wool unis.

Judge is better than Mantle and Dimaggio. Dimmagio didn't even play against black players

Do you think the Chicago White Sox representative will care if the American League gets home field in the World Series? The Rockies representative? The Diamondbacks manager? Even the Texas Rangers manager?
@anthonyjones78483 ай бұрын
Putting home field on the line was tried and it failed. Nobody cared. Interleague played killed the All-Star game pure and simple. If and when the leagues get balanced, I hope that they do away it
@michaelp67943 ай бұрын
Nope not yet and not defensively. Look at strikeouts. I’m just doing a soft top of my head, but I bet judge strikes out more in one year than Dimaggio did in 4-5 years.
@Phoenix-hj5so3 ай бұрын
This is a brain dead 80 year old take Joe DiMaggio never had as much offensive output as judge has now the strikeouts are irrelevant especially when he’s batting .320?
@Maker161st3 ай бұрын
None of the pitchers DiMaggio faced could make the roster if they time traveled to today

They had the worse pitching back then😂😂

This is why it’s tough for me to take the old numbers seriously outside of maybe the hit streak record. Give Judge a pitcher who just downed a case of Schlitz in the dugout, floating 82 over the plate and let’s see what his numbers look like.

I saw someone bring up an interesting point recently. They were talking about the movie Major League released in 1989. Wild thing is throwing for the coaches for the 1st time and throws a wild pitch that hits 96MPH that piques the interest of the coaches. That was considered impressive back then. In 2024, the AVERAGE fastball in the league is 94mph. You average 96MPH on your fastball today, you'd be tied for 47th in the league. 47th! Mason Miller is averaging 100.8, and there are 4 other guys over 99mph. Not just capable of hitting that speed, but averaging that on their fastball. It's a completely different league from when I was growing up in the 80's, let alone the 40's and 50's when Dimaggio and Mantle were playing.
@kinggremlin45743 ай бұрын
Another solution is just getting rid of the all star game. MLB all star game hasn't gotten to the level of trash of the other 3 major sports yet, but we're probably not far off from it. It's never going to be like it used to be, so just end it. Have the HR derby and a skills competition or something with money on the line so players actually want to participate and win.

You're the only ones who say the ASG should determine home field in the WS, because everyone else isn't stupid. It is an exhibition game, the purpose is to entertain the fans, and players on teams with no shot at the playoffs should not have any impact on where the series is played. Making it "count" was one of the dumbest things baseball has done in the last couple decades.
@kinggremlin45743 ай бұрын
I don't care one way or the other, but it isn't dumb to have players from each league determine which league get's homefield advantage. The reward is for the winning league. Whether or not the player is in the playoffs is irrelevant, they're a representative of one of the leagues.
@richardcranium58013 ай бұрын
With the amount of inter league play these days, it should simply go to the team with the best regular season record entering the WS.
@Ayouguys3 ай бұрын
Making the Allstar game count for something makes the season count for nothing. Best team should have home field. Who wants to win 111 games neck to neck with 2nd place and then give home field to the #2 wild card that won 80 games. So stupid !
@jasongoldberg44743 ай бұрын
Agreed. If any factor outside of a team’s w/l record should dictate WS home field advantage it should be each league’s win % in inter league play, but that’s just as unnecessary as heightening the importance of the all star game.
