He loves pitching and the numbers prove that he performs even better at the plate when he is pitching. Sure he might get hurt, sure he might tire out. So what? He's playing for the joy of the sport. Which players, coaches and other "professionals" preach all the time. "For the love of the game." Shut up and let him.

6 man rotation needs to be adopted not just for Ohtani’s sake but for the sake of all starting pitchers. Pitchers these days throw harder putting more pressure on their shoulders and elbows, which have produced unprecedented IL pitchers. Slippery MLB balls is one issue and 5 man rotation is another for IL. Slippery ball issue may not be solved right away, given MLB is partial owner of ball manufacturers. Change from 5 to 6 man rotation can be achieved immediately. Cost more you think ? Not in a way MLB contracts are written to player in which IL players get paid as players on the field.

Ohtani is the Goat 🐐 an Ace pitcher with a career 3.01 ERA and 11.1 Ks (can win 15 games with a 2.33 ERA in a season) and also hit 50 HRs and have 50 stolen bases. Speed Power and an Ace pitcher, even Babe Ruth never did that.

He will definitely want to pitch for as long as he can. He said that the struggle with just being a DH is that he had more control over the game as a pitcher. He would have to give up having control over 30 of 160 games. Theoretically speaking he could throw a perfect game and hit a homer and win the entire game just with a bit of support from his teammates. That kind of control would be hard to let go of.

The only relevant question is - what does Shohei want to do? - because if Shohei wants to be a starting pitcher, he is GOING to be a starting pitcher. This is his dream, and no manager or GM is dumb enough to tell him he can't pitch and kill the golden goose. In 2021 he would have easily hit over 50 home runs under the present format while being in the rotation full-time - he missed all his at-bats in National League parks (no DH until 2022) as well as not hitting after left the mound (no "Ohtani Rule" until 2022) and he still hit 46 home runs. Ya, you'd be giving up a few stolen bases - but only on days that he was pitching to conserve his strength - and for that you're not going to utilize him as a potential 15-20 game winner on the mound? If, and when, it comes time for Ohtani to give up pitching he will know and he will make that decision himself.
