That last clip sucks, but given time it will probably not be likely. Its a new rule so the players are still adjusting. In fact that last clip showed how the rule already protects against shenanigans of the batter trying to purposely get some foul for an extra run and that the batter always needs to be ready first, then its on the pitcher to avoid the violation. All the other clips I think showed the value of the pitch clock in keeping the game moving and making sure niether the batter nor pitcher try to slow roll some play.

The late innings are when pitch clock is needed the most. That's when relievers come in who throw their arms off with each pitch and need 2 minutes in between to recover for the next one. Relievers have always been the pitchers who take the longest time in between throws, and they turn what should be the most exciting moment in the game into the most unbearable to watch. These guys don't get paid to stand around and grab their junk, or adjust their gloves, or look at the sky. They get paid to throw the ball and swing the bat, and they should get their heads in the game and do just that.
@Windjammer19
@Windjammer19 Жыл бұрын
@@peachykeen3194 The clock will be in in effect for 8 innings. At that point, we've shaved off roughly 20 mins off the game. Removing the clock for the final inning(s) won't make the game any longer than it would have been otherwise. And if you're complaining about the length of an extra inning game, then you need to reprioritize why you watch baseball. Speed up the pace, but let the game end the right way: with a pitch being thrown.

Going to a Sox game next weekend, interested to see how the pitch clock changes the viewing experience of the game. I really like the new rule! It will have the same effect as the shot clock in basketball; it forces a steady pace of action. I know some people are complaining that a pitch clock violation would suck in a late-game or extra innings, but think about basketball-- the shot clock adds so much drama in the late game. Maybe MLB will need to increase the timer with men-on-base, but the overall implementation has been rock-solid.

There’s just some games that don’t need to be rushed. It works for basketball because the transition from offense to defense can change several times within a matter of seconds. Are big games truly going to be decided by a clock now? This completely takes away the mind games between the pitcher and batter. I’m not fan, I can see the argument for pace of play, but like I said earlier some games can’t be rushed, baseball isn’t for everyone, just like any other sport. Football has 15 min quarters but it still takes 3 hours to finish a game, no one bats an eye. Don’t see why baseball can’t just be left alone.

You could appreciate the subtlety and the calmness of each pitch. Also, the long time between pitches was amazing at building action and intensity, just watch Game 5 of the 2022 World Series. The casual fan will always find something to complain about. Just like NASCAR, baseball is alienating old fans in order to appeal to fans who don't care that much about baseball.

The problem that MLB is having is the interest in the sport. The game is not nearly as popular as it once was and baseball wants to have a future. If young men aren’t interested in the sport because they can’t stand 4 hour games they will play other sports which is what has been happening in recent years. Everything evolves. Baseball is no exception. MLB can’t focus on the older fans when the future of the sport is young fans. Your name is southsider which is where I’m originally from (born at Mercy hospital). And recently the league has been discussing how to get urban youth interested in baseball. When I drive past parks in the city in the summer, particularly on the south and west sides, the baseball diamonds are empty. Not the basketball courts though. I even see more flag football games being played. The interest just isn’t there. And that’s throughout the country. And lots of it is related to the pace of the game. Some other factors are also involved like cost of equipment but the attention span of this generation is nonexistent. So MLB is trying to appeal to an audience to grow the sport. There may be more changes as well which sucks but it is what it is.

@chicity78 I agree. It's a tough choice. They had to do this. Kids today don't have patience. They needed to adapt. I remember seeing a show on a firday has a kid, and waiting til Monday afternoon for the following episode. For years. But Kids today will binge it all on the same weekend, They see the whole season. Totally different generation. I couldn't even see HD porn until I was 14. A 6 year old can see it on a phone. Baseball needed the pitch clock.

Pitch clock is whatever. BUT 9th inning onward, dump it. The dramatic build to the finish of a baseball game is some of the best sports ever. Pitcher and batter needing those extra moments too take a breath, set themselves, prepare for the biggest moments of their lives. Crowd stomping, PA system pounding, intensity building to a fever pitch.... Yeah, let's get rid of that.

I agree that something should be done to keep batters and pitchers from taking a day and year to get going. However everyone keeps comparing this to basketball and football. Baseball is neither one of those. Baseball isn’t dictated by a time clock. From a lot of the responses here and elsewhere, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people would support an Inning clock in the future. 15-20 minute innings. Time will tell how this goes. I saw a lot of people in favor of the extra inning lead off man on second also.

Instead of calling violation on strike 3, have the pitcher proceed with the pitch so they have to throw an actual strike for a strike 3. If the batter doesn’t swing, they don’t swing but at least they had an opportunity. They probably can’t do it this way due to safety concerns.

Just enforce this already existing rule. _(c) (8.04) Pitcher Delays. When the bases are unoccupied, the pitcher shall deliver the ball to the batter within 12 seconds after he receives the ball. Each time the pitcher delays the game by violating this rule, the umpire shall call “Ball.” The 12-second timing starts when the pitcher is in possession of the ball and the batter is in the box, alert to the pitcher. The timing stops when the pitcher releases the ball. The intent of this rule is to avoid unnecessary delays. The umpire shall insist that the catcher return the ball promptly to the pitcher, and that the pitcher take his position on the rubber promptly._

I haven't watched an MLB game in years, the colossal gameplay time of many fixtures is what took me out, so I'm in for anything that can extinguish the 4:00+ hour outliers. Not sure if 15 really is enough, though, but I read somewhere minor league players have already adjusted. That being said, the giant clocks look awkward there lol Maybe they should try a different kind of display. Other than that, I think they should also consider cutting time between innings if they haven't already, or _maybe_ cutting one inning entirely? Not sure, but I'd be totally down for something that can put the average game time to 2:30 hours, maybe even 2.
