I'm biased as a Padres fan for Merrill, but I also think context matters. To me Merrill is having the most outstanding season of any of them because he's 21, and he's learning a premium defensive position on the fly (playing it at a very high level by the way). And even the award itself states that it goes to the most *oustanding* rookie. Outstanding doesn't always mean best. Taking this to its logical extreme, if you had an 18 year old rookie with an .800 OPS, then that is clearly more outstanding than say a 25 year old rookie with a .830 OPS, even though the latter may be marginally better. I don't take away credit for older rookies, but I do think younger rookies deserve extra credit. If the stats are close, I think Merrill's season is more aligned with the spirit of the ROY award. But Ortiz has been balling out no doubt.

Jhoensky Noel hit a foul ball homer. Even after replay it was still called a homer. Outside the foul pole it the base of the netting in FOUL TERRITORY. royals were up 2-1 at that point then that bad call took the wind out of the sails for us. Terrible call. Bad umpiring. The umpiring in mlb is the worst compared to any other sport
