I agree the Mets don’t have the pitching to keep this up, because the offense will cool off at some point. However, I think they should strongly consider making a move right now to acquire a top-tier starter. That would allow them to move someone to the bullpen (probably Megill or Peterson), and if/when Senga gets healthy and Scott gets recalled, they can move at least one other guy to the bullpen. Meanwhile, that buys them a few weeks to see how things shake out, because after this upcoming Astros’ series, the schedule is fairly easy until July 22, but they have no off-days until the ASB. They can’t count on Senga, and they have to limit Scott’s innings, but _IF_ things work out, great: you could eventually have a top four of, say, Flaherty (?), Senga, Severino, and Scott, which is so much better than Severino, Quintana, Manaea, and Megill. If it doesn’t work out, they can re-flip Flaherty (or whoever) and recoup the prospect capital they would have had to give up for him, plus sell off some other pieces. Feels like a win-win. Take advantage of the schedule, help yourself out, put yourself in a position to weather the tougher schedule that’s to come-but give yourself an out if it all comes crashing down.
