if there's one unwritten rule that makes no sense, it's the one about not trying to hit when winning by a lot or against a position player pitching. These guys are paid millions of dollars to play, they have stats that are affected by these games, and people get mad when they try? If the opposing team really can't handle getting beaten by 20 runs, we either need to implement a mercy/surrender rule, or the opposing team needs to check their egos and stop crying when they get shelled. just my two cents

Honestly these unwritten rules make these players seem childish. Just because you’re up 5+ runs you can’t continue to hit and improve your numbers? 1)These players get paid because of their numbers. I’m not throwing an at bat away. 2)Teams always come back being down 5+ runs. Every run counts 3)Only unwritten rule i agree with is bunting during a no hitter/perfect game. Breaking history with a cheap hit seems weak

Its wild that those that often bemoan the breaking of the unwritten rules are the same lads who criticize the notion of the "participation trophy." Someone bunts - throw their ass out. Bat toss - make a better pitch next time. You put a position player on the mound - take those lumps or waist a bullpen arm. Miss me with that unwritten shit. Soft. Play better.

I don’t like unwritten rules. Feels like participation trophies at times. Hit when you want, kill no hitters with a bunt, and deal with it. 🤷🏽♂️

Never understand why MLB doesn't implement the same rule the NBA does when it comes to fights. You leave the bench and step on the court you are ejected. Should be the same for baseball. You leave the dugout or your position to get into a fight, you are ejected. Stupid brawls that no one wants to see that just screw up the game.

I agree the unwritten rules are often overly sensitive but if you think about it, a lot of the unwritten rules from the fact that in baseball, there’s no game clock. If you’re winning and getting hits and scoring and the defense can’t get an out, there’s nothing stopping you from scoring 30 runs. The beaten team has to take the beating for as long as the winner feels like. That’s the source of many of the unwritten rules. In football/basketball/soccer/hockey, even if you’re getting dominated, at least you can look up at the clock and see it will be over soon.

The absolute worst unwritten rule in baseball is don't bunt to break up a perfect game/no hitter. Why should the batter, an opponent, have the slightest worry in the world about the pitcher's achievement? Especially in a close game. I was watching a game years ago and a pitcher had a no hitter going into the eighth of a 1-0 game, and the lead off batter bunted a base hit and everyone lost their mind about it. The batter is trying to win the damn game. How does the pitcher's potential no hitter take priority over trying to win the game for your team? For no reason other than "that's not how you're supposed to play baseball". Just so stupid.

I’m a big baseball fan, but this is one area where the sport seriously suffers and makes it seem archaic. Don’t swing on a lead? Don’t try to get on base? Don’t try to hit a home run, even though it’s only the sixth inning and your team is up by 7? Isn’t that what these guys get paid millions of dollars to do? Who came up with these stupid “unwritten rules”, anyway? Absolutely ridiculous and asinine. My favorite, too, is when the pitchers get insanely butt hurt and INTENTIONALLY drill the batter. Because, after all, trying to purposely injure an opposing player since your feelings were hurt is completely justified 🙄

When on offense your job is to score runs. Screw these crybabies. If you don't want the other team to run the score up then pitch better and play better defense: don't beg for mercy. You can be damn sure that you won't apologize for rallying from 12 runs down and winning the game because the other team with the big lead slacked off and tried to coast to a win. It is not their job to let you catch up. Deal with it.

Getting mad at a dude for bat flipping after a homerun and then throwing at him is the biggest pussy move. Literally the only sport where dudes get their feelings hurt when the other guy celebrates. Literally every other sports response when they see someone celebrating "don't like it? Stop em then"

I don’t mind the unwritten rules, but I remind the kids when I coached them, the unwritten rules do no apply to little league. They apply to the professionals only. You can’t have little leagues beaning batters in retaliation of a over dramatic bat toss on a home run swing.
