@@jogman262 It's a beautiful tradition that has NOTHING to do with the comment to which you're responding. It demonstrates contempt for the opposition. "I would otherwise love this souvenir. I've coveted a ball since I was a little boy -- but not if it was hit by the opposing team. A souvenir like that is worthless to me. I only want one hit by the team with whom I live and die." I wonder what team you're a fan of? Do you know that when I first went to Wrigley Field, there were crowds of only 3,000 or 5,000? Do you know how much misery and heartache Cubs fans have endured? And still we loved them, and rode the 'l' to games in a brick ballpark in a real neighborhood. My mother worked like a dog 'til she was 89 years old -- on her feet, at the end commuting an hour each way to work. Neither of my parents graduated even from high school, but they sent me to Yale (undergrad) and to Harvard. My mom had a stroke when she was 91, and I gave up my theatre company in Los Angeles to move back to Chicago and become her full-time caregiver. I did that for nearly 7 years until she passed away at the age of 97. 97 years. The Cubs never won a World Series during her lifetime. If we toss a ball back, it's an expression of loyalty.

Well, yes ....but when this kind of thing happens and there are cups of beer all over the place ...let's agree to call it like it is ..."DRUNKS". The baseball league COULD fix this by doing many different things ....but it is probably the "controversy" element that they think adds to the competition. .

I agree to an extent, but most people pay for those seats to get a souvenir foul ball. Yes, it's aggravating that sometimes a fair ball is touched or outright grabbed, but in the heat of the moment, they're looking at the ball that's coming toward them. They don't glance at the ump to see if it's fair, or check to see if a player can make a play on a ball that's just into the seats. Anyone that's ever been to a live game knows you don't take your eyes off the ball or you could get pegged with a line drive.

I think videos like these blow things out of proportion, and then you get idiots in the comments. 9 minute video for? Thousands of games played per year? If it was such a big issue things would change fences put up/ rule changes. I think its fine, people mess up they see a ball they aren't pro athletes they aren't paying attention to the umps call down the line. Half the reason you pay for those seats is so you can get a ball, 95% of games are uneventful and boring. Can anyone blame someone for grabbing a ball when they've been sitting there for a couple hours and that's the first real action they've seen. Since MLB is trying to get fans back so bad (with all the rule changes) they should incorporate fans interfering. Coin flip... heads they go to 3rd tails they stay on first. Imagine how that'd play out down the line, purists/antagonists paying big money for seats for some possible action. That'd make for some fun games. No wonder the banana league or whatever wwf inspired baseball league is doing so well

If it's the opponent in the field and the fly ball is past the wall by all means you can catch it but if it's your own team in the field then back up and allow them to reach into the stands to make the catch. Of course if you reach into the field of play that's a whole different story. I wouldn't advise that even though there could be a rare circumstance where a fan interfering with the ball could wind up helping their team. I remember a game between the Rangers and White Sox where a game ended on such a play when the umpire brought the winning run around from first base and awarded him home plate ending the game in their favor. The kicker is it was at their home stadium so if it was a hometown fan he was indeed rewarded for interfering with a fair ball in play.

That kid at the Mets game was epic. Cocksure to the end and acting like his team was the one up 7-2 in the 9th. Is that a NY metro thing, because I've seen Devils fans chanting "HEY YOU SUCK" when they score a goal to remain down 2-5 with minutes left in the 3rd period. Just the pure joy of raising the opponent's GAA, I guess.

This video goes to contrast the Alex Gordon play in Chicago a few years ago. That video could be called Reckless LF. I have no issue with the guy at @5:44. The ball was over the wall so he has a right to self-defense which could entail catching the ball. Including him in the Reckless Fan description is a stretch. The poor guy at 7:18 likely has problems brushing his teeth in the morning.

No fan should be able to get close enough to interfere. It could change the outcome of a game. They need to design stadiums to make it impossible.
