I understand you are not supposed to shake the Queens hand, but it really is an American thing. This is awesome!
@clairemcfadyen10363 жыл бұрын
You are allowed to shake her hand but you must wait until she extends her hand for a handshake. You're not supposed to touch her hand unless she first extends her hand to you. Touching the Queen anywhere else is a huge no-no. Michelle Obama made a huge faux-paz and she wrapped her arm around the Queen, forcing the Queen to reciprocate with a hug back. The American media made out that it was the Queen who initiated the hug, it wasn't, it was Michelle. As a Brit, I will say I cringed so much at that. The Queen is just an ordinary women yet she is our figurehead. Putting hands on our Queen is the same as putting hands on all of us. I know we Brit's are a little weird at times, but it is our traditions. Speaking during our National Anthem is also a huge no-no. Barrack Obama obviously wasn't told this though and proceeded to speak through our national anthem. The Queen had to tell him to wait. I wonder if our Queen will ever visit your lovely country again. Much love from the UK 💜

At 4:30 the commentators discuss the removal of hats, and one says "it's not the American way". That statement is not true. It is a universal custom that men remove their hats when meeting a lady, as it is for a seated gentleman to stand when being introduced to a lady who is standing. Even if the Queen wasn't there, it would be basic good manners for the players to take their caps off when meeting the First Lady. Parents in the USA used to teach this to their children, but the exercise of good manners has been diminishing. Just look around and notice the number of men keeping on their head-wear in some of those televised megachurch services, during the playing of the national anthem, in restaurants, even students keeping baseball caps on while being taught in the schoolroom. Fortunately there are still a few men & women who remember some of these tenets of civility and are passing them on to the next generation.

I miss this old girl. I’m an American through and through, but I liked the Queen. She just came off as a truly majestic woman but who also had fun with it - most of us have heard that she loved her Nintendo Wii and was apparently pretty good at Wii Bowling, or the time that she insisted on driving around a Prince (or perhaps even King) from Saudi Arabia because women aren’t allowed to drive in most Muslim nations. There’s also pictures of her shooting automatic weapons while out visiting troops, and many more pretty cool and fun stories. Her son King Charles is a boring guy. Not trying to insult my UK and Commonwealth cousins, but you know it’s true. He doesn’t have the mischievous personality that his mom had in abundance. And we can’t forget that she served her nation in WWII as well, serving as an automobile mechanic in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. While her father the King wouldn’t let her go into any combat zones he also wouldn’t allow her to be given a rank she didn’t deserve because she was a Royal. She worked as a driver and a mechanic as a Second Subaltern and was eventually promoted to the rank of Junior Commander. Yes, that old gal knew how to change oil, distributor caps, spark plugs and tune an engine. I think that’s pretty cool. Rest well, Queen Elizabeth. And as always - LET’S GO O’s!
