This wasn't supposed to be a series the O's run away with. Two of the starters were bullpen guys playing starting roles due to injuries and the 3rd was a called up rookie, going up against some of the strongest Yankee pitchers, on the road. Winning 1 of 3 would have been respectable.

What's happening with the Orioles is, their weakest hitters are all hot. Urias, Hays, Santander, even Mullins now. They all seem to be back in form. If these guys keep hitting, it's going to be a tough lineup for any opponent. The power is spread through the lineup. The team looks so different from last year. Last year they were inspired. This year they are powerful and backed by serious pitching.

@@kaphizmey6229as a fellow Orioles fan I agree the team doesn’t have the best outlook, but having possibly the best 2 bats in the league, a starting rotation that is elite and just now is getting cole back, and the best record in baseball, there are worse places to be. And with the highest active payroll in baseball its hard to call Hal cheap for wanting to lower the payroll. If you told me 3 years ago that the O’s would have the highest payroll in baseball, have the best record, and have pulled off a trade for soto I wouldnt be complaining. Sure the yankees always want more but it must not be very enjoyable being part of such a pessimistic fan base.

@@greg_morr you are right that on paper the Yankees are in an enviable position. As an everyday watcher of the yanks I can tell you that things are trending in the wrong direction. Hal is absolutely not cheap. We don’t feel that way about him. Cashman has wasted the money given to him by Hal by doing disastrous trades (ex: Donaldson) and long term extensions for washed players (Hicks, LeMahieu). They have a huge payroll but are getting absolutely nothing out of a good portion of it, and are severely hamstrung by thr size and low-value of those contracts.
