Softballs have a lot more air resistence and not as much mass. They would slow down too much in air if thrown from farther away. A 92mph softball thrown from 60 feet away would be too slow by the time it reached the plate. That's why it's a silly sport. They're top college and olympic athletes. Give them a real damn baseball and let them play. I like softball, but that's because I'm in terrible shape. My sister was a great baseball player and she hated softball.

@@scottyhaines4226 I didn't know they were heavier, thanks. But they do have significantly more air resistance, which is proportional to the radius squared. I know my sister was a great baseball player in little league (where she was the only girl) and wanted to play in high school. They reluctantly agreed to let her try out, but said she wasn't good enough. She insists she was better than a lot of the guys on the team and I 100% believe it. Doesn't matter how fast the ball is going when it crosses the plate, as much as how long you have to get the bat around on it. A 68mph softball pitched 43 feet from the plate gets there in exactly the same amount of time as a 95 mph baseball pitched from 60 feet-6 inches. You'll see the ladies hitting 70+ mph softball pitches in any NCAA Division 1 game. There's a tee-shirt out there that says: "Yeah, I throw like a girl. Try to hit it this time." Don't think it's the same? Well, step into the batting cage, slugger, and try it some time. Let us know how you do.
@williamhandjis865 жыл бұрын
Eric Coleson so with your mindset, little league World Series players play at a higher degree of difficulty because they may face a pitcher throwing 75 mph on 45 feet. I don’t care what the equivalent is, it would be harder to hit 96 mph in the mlb than 75 from 45 feet.
@ericcoleson74105 жыл бұрын
@@williamhandjis86 Nah: If I meant "harder to hit", I'd have said that. The Little Leaguer's 75mph fastball isn't going to have the motion of a 95mph MLB pitch, nor is the breaking ball going to displace as far or quickly. Otoh, the softball's diameter and density and the point of release on a 70mph underhand pitch lead to some dynamic differences that might come as a surpris to the MLB hitter, and he'll have no more time to figure it out before it crosses the plate. The claim was that there weren't any girls standing in on 95mph fastballs. All I said was, like as makes no difference.

Sam The fact is that women are not physically constructed to play baseball or throw a baseball nor hit a ball the way a man can. Men have stronger upper bodies. If women could throw 99 miles from 60.6 feet then they would be playing in pro baseball. No woman can do this from 60.6 feet but 45 feet it’s a different story.
@Sam_on_YouTube5 жыл бұрын

@rc2teach5 жыл бұрын
In hindsight, and during youthful years, girls and boys may play on a Level Field. However, as they mature into men and women, their physicality's come into play. The majority of men are stronger than women, there is no arguing that fact. As for any women who might be able to play in the majors, if it happens, it will more than likely be someone who pitches and throws knuckle balls which do not require high velocity... There have been great women softball players, but if their talents transcended into a MLB professional player skills then they would have been playing in the Pros. I am not one to say Never Say Never, but because of the differences in physicality, chances of women playing professional baseball are limited. But while they are young, I agree 110% - "Let Them Play!"
@Sam_on_YouTube5 жыл бұрын
@@rc2teach I don't know why that would change when they're older. I'm not saying to let college and high school boys onto the girls teams. I understand the average physical differences and while there are exceptions, those exceptions are too rare to make it fair to allow boys on the girls' teams. Though you can allow girls on the boys' teams without issue. But why would you suggest that girls or yound women should be required to play softball instead of baseball just because they can't throw as hard or run as fast? If you admit kids can play baseball and certainly women are not getting worse at it when they get to be college athletes than they were as kids, why would you make college athletes play softball if they prefer baseball? Again, if they want to play softball, no problem. But why make them?
@rc2teach5 жыл бұрын
I never said or suggested that girls or women should be required or regulated to playing only softball. On the contrary, there are many instances where young girls are more physically mature than certain boys and can out play them in baseball. The only point I was trying to make is that as great and as hard as Monica Abbott is by throwing from 45 feet, she could not replicate her velocity from 60.6 feet. Lastly, not every boy/man is physical and talent enough to play in MLB...

people forget that while our balls are bigger, our bats are smaller. while we pitch “slower” the pitcher’s release point is 37 feet from home plate. and, to end the debate right now, we have riseballs.

Sorry. As a middle aged man in need of rotator cuff surgery, i could strike any man out in the MLB if i was standing 30 feet from home plate. How does this nonsense impress anyone.

D Bach we have more pitches to throw and less time to react to swing and make plays off hits yet we still do it. We hit not everyone strikes out.

@dnnyshdy Then what would you call it when it gets higher the closer it gets to the plate?

Not anymore but a lot of pitchers used to get away with it
@seriliz004 жыл бұрын
No it's not legal in softball, but if there is no rubber, sometimes it's hard not to step. In a real game with a rubber to push off of you won't see such a pronounced step before the pitches.

Here's an idea...Have her pitch from a REAL MLB pitcher's mound. Sixty feet, 6 inches from home plate and about 2 feet above the diamond rather than 46 feet from the plate from a pitcher's rubber that is virtually level to the playing field. My guess is that she wouldn't be anywhere NEAR as successful.
@chinchillacheesecake38746 жыл бұрын
Chris Bowman hm she would still be successful
@rayharder49106 жыл бұрын
Why would she do that? She's a fastpitch softball pitcher and she's dominant. Yes, most professional baseball players could, with time, adjust and probably hit her just fine. But Jenny Finch and others have shown that in small sample sizes that a good fastpitch pitcher can absolutely make a MLB batter look foolish.
@christian4u696 жыл бұрын
Ray Harder Why would she do that? To make herself more credible. OBVIOUSLY she would have the advantage playing on her own field. Now try playing on someone else's field and see how well you do. The MLB hitters went to her house. Now she should go to theirs.
@rayharder49106 жыл бұрын
She isn't trying to be circus act. She's an professional fastpitch softball player, and possibly one of the greatest of all time. Did Michael Jordan need golf or baseball to become credible? Is Tiger Woods not credible if he can't dunk a basketball? Her sport is Softball and she dominates.
