Like the video alluded to, the early 1970s broadcasts with Merle Harmon were the best sports broadcasts ever, even though the Brewers were terrible. Harmon would make up stories about Uecker giving a speech at some Kiwanis 1000 miles away that afternoon, and Bob would go on and on about how great the crowd was at this imaginary speech.

I'm a league and tournament umpire and we are supposed to say "ball" but I say where the ball was. And because of Bob, when there is a pitch thrown outside and to the backstop, my call at times will be, "Juuuust a bit outside." It make me smile. It makes the parents who know, laugh. RIP "Mr. Baseball"
@christollaksen844218 сағат бұрын
I also call games and thought many times to say it out loud as the ball crashed into the backstop. I had to stop a game as one of the grandpa's at the game did the voice just before the next pitch. I was laughing so hard I put my hands up to stop the game. Only a few of us at the game knew the joke, but by the next inning a dad had downloaded the Uecker call on his phone, the rest of the crowd understood why I had stopped the game. Great people make great memories, we were blessed to have Bob in both mind and spirit.

I feel like someone stole part of my childhood today. Bob Uecker was a giant part of my youth as I spent countless days and nights listening to him call games for my beloved Brewers. I can still remember him screaming with joy “Robin flying around third” as Yount scored what was a pretty normal run on a base hit. Uecker just adored the Brewers and kept his immense passion for a team that struggled for many years following the heights of the 1980’s. I’ll never forget the wonderful and hilarious stories he told about his time in the military or during his stint with the Braves and in the minors. RIP Uek, I hope you understand how much you meant and how loved you are by so many Brewers fans
