MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

Brody is a local from here in Ohio and he's been on a multi year tear livescoping lol It's wild how some guys have that little extra that allows them not to just do well, but win on a regular basis. These lakes and rivers (other than Erie) are brutally tough compared to a lot of places in the country. Our old tournament director Dave from the BFL days always said you put a Buckeye angler on good water and they'll show you what lives there. We are used to fishing so tough that if you get 5 keepers you're top 15 lol Great video series man!

Great explanation of what rods you use and why. I really get the fact that you don't like changing gear ratios on your reels. I am the same. I would rather have them all close and I can and do mentally slow down when I need to. Makes a lot of sense. Good stuff!

Cory Rambo and several of those Rayburn C-Rig guys use a long 4.5-5 ft leader.

Totally agree… a longer rod is a must with C-Rig… I use a 7’8” H/F

Thanks Todd I’ve really enjoyed this series. I have learned more about regular bass fishing from your videos than any others. I hope that you will consider leveling up your scope game. I think that for trails to get good numbers they will need to do these combo tournaments. Part scope and part regular fishing. I know that you don’t want to come in 14th and only get $2400. This game needs to change. Show us how a 40 year old angler can stay up with the times.

Great information. This is a great series. … I agree that cranking rods or blended rods work great for bladed jigs. Rod loads up and fish comes in. That being said I fish a swim jig 85% of the time and will switch to a bladed jig situationally. So for me I’ve gone to a MH/ModF which allows me to fish both baits pretty effectively as a bank angler. I’ll miss a few but I’m also not a tournament angler. One step further I took your advice to fish the hybrid hunter like a bladed jig and was amazed. I find myself going to the hybrid hunter over the bladed jig now. The MH/ModF does a good job for me as well when fishing the hybrid hunter.

Agreed on reel speed. The way that I figured it out was going by paying attention to the feeling the bait is producing instead of how fast I’m turning the handle. After I did that, there was no going back. Outside of a couple of big swimbait reels, I don’t think I have a reel under 7:1.

Just got cranking but I’m with you nothing less than 7:1

@@toddcastledinefishing5924 For deep/hard pulling cranks I just put bigger handles on fast reels. 110mm handles on 7-8:1 reels for baits up to the 6xd-8xd sizes and 120mm on 7:1 for stuff similar to the 10xd. Simple physics, it gives the reel more torque to make up for the lack of torque between the difference in gears of a slow vs fast reel. Makes those days when you got fish a hard pulling crankbait pretty fast way easier and actually enjoyable.

I learned long time ago on TB fishing deep grass in the early 90’s and had a custom 8’ C-Rig rod built personally 1/3 the length of my rod is how I run my leader but never get over half. I found that out the stupid hardheaded way losing big fish and fish in general.

Do you have trouble ripping chatterbait loose from grass with a crankbait rod?

Carolina rig set up I like to put a bobber stopper above my weight to reduce the separation between the swivel and the weight. What are your thoughts on using mono on the leader to give the bait a chance at more buoyancy.

I'm just not worried about the buoyancy ever

If you want buoyancy, go to braid for your leader. The smaller diameter of braid should offset any line visibility problems.

I would be curious what rod you use for your Redeye. If you don't do a video on it would you please send me the rod info in instant messenger. Thanks in advance Vince
What do you do when the water is 47 degrees and 10 days later it's 60???
