I just loooove when they say that your husband, your children and your problems are distractions. When I was recruited into an MLM I was told I can do this while taking care of my small children, cause it's so easy for young mothers to add it to their day schedule. Then when I was in, and love-bombing phase was over, all I was hearing was: you can't use your children as an excuse, you have to attend a meeting/call/training session, leave them with grandparents, get a nanny! Then when I kept putting my children first I was told I'm never going to be "successful" cause I'm not working hard enough. Oh sweet Odin! I have to write down my horror story and send it to you.

@@dahliacheung6020 but do they actually know for certain? The whole point of the trial IS to prove the accused guilt in a court of law. If the evidence that is the so-called "smoking gun" and would 100% prove your case is deemed inadmissible, why exactly was that? What holes could be poked in that cincher piece of evidence? The point of a criminal trial is to prove "beyond a reasonable doubt". Leaving an MLM is the exact opposite of giving up on yourself or being a coward . To make the decision to love and honour yourself enough to believe that you should be paid for your time no matter where you are in the business or on the ladder is NOT giving up on yourself . There are many people higher up than me in my work place , because of their education and experience and yes they are paid more than me . But I still get paid ! I don’t have to work relentlessly for free until I’m at a certain point in my field to be paid . That mlm logic is insane .

@joyfuljaj

i was going to say something similar. No matter what the person says, they are not going to determine this is not for them. A legit team leader would want to evaluate whether the person's skills and interests would help his team. This lady is ready to tell anyone "I think you would do very well with this." I'm a pretty self assured person, but when I have been in a job search I have fallen prey to such assurances thinking, "maybe I've really found something here." At least my opportunity was either not an MLM or was a hunbot doing a real evaluation. I took a test that determined I would not be a fit for what turned out to be a financial sales job. The hun in this video was prepared for no such evaluation. Her only determination for the people she decided to focus on for VIP was that they would not work hard enough for her team. How rude! I'm not going to be good at sales. It's not because I'm not a hard worker but because I don't like trying to convince people to buy things.

I am a former Monat market partner. I quit last month, and I have NEVER felt more peaceful and passionate in my life. The mindset behind the first clip is a big part of why I left. I also left because Monat is in the process of selling. Due to their consistently declining financial condition, they have made many decisions regarding the compensation plan and the products themselves that I could not get behind and promote. Monat is one of the WORST MLMs you could be a part of. The cult mindset is so sneaky, it latches onto your brain. I truly feel like I am in the stages of grief, it’s like breaking up with a toxic ex. The reps are being put in a terrible desperate position, and they’re working it HARD. Please don’t jump onto this sinking ship. You can’t see a ship is sinking when you’re on the inside of it. You don’t know until you see the water rising around your shoes. I can’t tell you how heartbroken I am watching true friends that I made through Monat going down with the ship. Loyalty is not always the best way.

Good for you. And I was part of one myself many years ago (pre social media so we literally stalked people in parking lots and were told to just barge into businesses) so I know the tactics they use and you're right, it is like an abusive ex. Not the violent kind, the manipulative kind that tells you how they're the best thing to happen to you and if you leave, there's something wrong with you because why can't you just see how awesome they are. How they'll be whooping it up and making tons while you're in some sad little job. There's nothing wrong with you. You're great. Even better now than you were with them for sure. Because even some "sad little job" will get you closer to having a comfortable life than you'd ever have with them. That nasty ex. The one who always had to know where you were and what you were doing and why you needed time by yourself. If you weren't doing something that involved them then you were doing something wrong because they were what made you awesome, right? Wrong. You are fine- they are the problem. And now you get to move on and leave them stewing in their own toxicity.

I remember them always hosting conferences at their home telling desperate people they could have what they had through "hard work" and earning extra money on the weekends helping my friend stuff envelopes with pamphlets that stated vague "business" opportunities" while not even mentioning the product that was actually sold. This was in the 90's and since then I have never witnessed one person ever turned in profit from a MLM little less a livable income. .As for that family, the MLM eventually went under and they had to file for bankruptcy and their home went into foreclosure.

When you think about it, it is absolutely brilliant that these MLM companies cultivate such a strong relationship with self-help content. “Hey, come and become the person you’ve always wanted to be, have the family you’ve always wanted, AND earn riches beyond your wildest dreams” is pretty enticing, honestly. This is why anti-MLM content is so critical. People need to be reminded that something that seems too good to be true, probably is.

_"List ten reasons you gave up."_ I don't need ten reasons, I don't even need _one_ real reason, it's my life and my choices and I can leave if I want to even if I can't give a solid reason for why. Maybe it's just a feeling that I'll put a name to later, but if my instincts are telling me go, I don't need anything else. You're not my boss after all, right, I'm my "own boss" so I should be able to leave whenever I like. It's like someone you're on a date with asking for ten reasons why you won't go on another one with them, like no I don't owe you that, if I feel somethings off even without a name for it I'm listening to that.

Also, I get where you're coming from when you say that you appreciate certain things about this woman. However, I honestly believe that her 'honest, transparent' approach is a THOUSAND times more dangerous than the traditional predatory practices that we've seen. People like her are training a new type of HunBot with at least a little bit of self awareness. Any leader for anything will always be much more powerful, and attract more of a following, and has the ability to do much more damage, if they are self aware, than someone in a leadership position that doesn't possess that same self awareness. I don't like that I've been seeing more and more people like her appear in videos within the Anti MLM space. It worries me. 😟

Let's all just remember that "get uncomfortable" was the exact phrasing used by the NXIVM cult to override people's sense that this wasn't right or their natural sense of self-preservation. It's such a manipulative thing to tell people. Of course, plenty of worthwhile things require us to push ourselves, but that doesn't mean doing whatever your upline says or letting them yell at you. Big difference! Also, when a stranger starts asking you deep and personal questions, it's time to shut it down! They clearly don't understand that there are some things that are only for those who have earned their place in our lives. It's very entitled to start asking people personal questions as though you are close to them when you're not.

I hold advanced degrees in philosophy, data science, and finance. But these psychological tactics used by MLMers still confuse me sometimes. So, your videos are really enlightening. I had to laugh though at that first lady asking, "Why did you give up on yourself." That's like asking: "Why did you stop beating your wife?" In Logic, we called this a "loaded question." Also, in my entire career, I've never had one manager ask me upon my resignation: "Why did you give up on yourself?" And I've had some dodgy managers.

Actually, it's more manipulative to call it a "gift". Then the reps actually think they are somehow "hurting" their family and friends by not telling them about it. And the low level constant stress that this causes is so toxic. To the reps, to ALL of their relationships, to their ability to just live and enjoy life. It's horrible.

Also I laughed at that second video when she was talking about establishing common ground, because my experience of MLMs is that the distributors are perfectly willing to manufacture common ground where there isn’t any. It says pretty prominently on my Instagram bio that I’m a church organist. I had someone (with no indication of MLM stuff anywhere on her profile) follow me and start chatting with me about how “we’re both church organists”. I followed her back because she seemed nice enough, and then (because I thought I was making a new friend) I messaged her over Christmas just saying I hoped she was staying sane through the busy Christmas work season, and she said she didn’t work Christmas. That’s when alarm bells started going off, because no church organist just “doesn’t work Christmas”. So I started thinking that she might have played a service once or twice, but she wasn’t employed as a church organist. So what, pray tell, could someone who randomly followed me on social media possibly be employed doing? 🧐 Sure enough, a couple weeks later she invited me to her Beachbody challenge group “with Christ at the center!”. I said no (no reasons, just “no thanks”) and suddenly she just stopped talking to me. Guess we don’t have that much in common after all🤣

Really just here for the cat drive-by (hi Zeke!), but my general comment is echoing those of others: we "gave up" on MLMs to make our lives better. In many ways, the lessons learned there have helped shaped the outspoken feminist I've become, because this kind of manipulation by women of other women was really a breaking point for me. So, thanks MLMs - leaving you taught me a lot.
