happy birthjday! i love how the first shot of the entire fic includes derpy carrying a wreath covered in the same red lights that cover the corpses in the final shot. nice bit of foreshadowing reminding us that yet another variant of best pony died a horrible death. i remember back on your fimfic page you did an appletwi short that mentioned scootaloop being sacraficed to that one lady who retains her youth with virgin blood. and it's so in character for twilight to spend so long jotting down every detail of the disease to have any magic left to teleport said letter to celestia. (i'm one to talk after writing this whole paragraph lol)

Such a chilling tale to mull over this Winter Solstice! Starlight clutching the teacup is such an interesting detail if it is meant as a symbol of Trixie’s attempt at an escape if she had turned herself into one in order to escape what would’ve been a painful death from the illness! Seemed a bit brash of them to automatically think they were done for considering the only ponies affected were ones who confessed their love or showed it, I mean Applejack was fine even though she was relatively close to Big Mac and Sugar Belle so that was a bit silly on their end. However how did everyone in Ponyville die at the end especially Starlight (This might be due to whiplash from the last story from The Lost Narrator) unless Twilight’s shield was still up after everyone died then Starlight could’ve just teleported and escaped with the others. Although aside from those little points this was a really good Grimdark, especially the art, Bravo 👏.

The 1st ponies infected were ones who were under the mistletoe (yk that tradition where ppl in love kiss under the mistletoe) so they inhaled the mistletoe spores first. The mistletoe was feeding off the magic of the ponies, not their love, so when more spores spread then all ponies that come into contact with the spores were also infected and they had no cure or way to stop the spread besides Twilights shield which eventually broke anyway when she died so thats why everypony was doomed from the start

I think by the end Celestia and Luna will resort to destroying all of Equestria and not just Ponyville. If we want to be even slightly hopeful. In the end, all routes lead to G5 lmao unless ofc Twilight is wrong and the Yaks KNOW how to deal with it.

Like just think about it, the infection spreads further, Celestia, Luna and Cadance are yet to be infected but panic is spreading. And then, Prince Rutherford and the Yaks come back to bring the Yak students of the school of friendship into Equestria, only to find Ponyville and many other Equestrian towns in ruin. They, despite not being able to be afflicted themselves, are a species of a long history. And surely maintained texts related to a cure for magical beings, similar to Swamp fever. In the end, Equestria is safe, years later... And only after the threat is finally over, can Celestia venture into ponyville, into the Castle Of Friendship... And only then, is she able to read Twilight's letter.

If the mistletoe’s growth is affected bye magic. Wouldn’t that mean that the castle is the most invested. Since twilight is an Alicorn. That letter is in a very small room too. This story was absolutely bone chilling. Also how can a plant like this even grow. Around where the yaks live. It’s probably harmless to yaks.

Twilight should've tried sending the letter soon as she wrote the part about nuking the town. She might've had just enough magic to send it if she had. As the letter kept going, I knew Twilight had taken too long. Adding so much after asking for Ponyville's destruction was her biggest mistake. I guess I'll forgive her for that, blame it on the fact so many emotions were raging through her at the same pace as the spores growing inside her. A brief letter would have saved Equestria, but, in her grief, her depression as her fate fully cemented itself in her mind, she poured her heart out, failing to realise now was not the Time for that

I’m wondering if AppleJack kissing Twilight was the mistletoe looking for another host. That moment put me in mind of a one from HBO’s The Last of Us. Spoiler warning… maybe as what I’m going to bring up is from the end of episode 2. In episode 2 Tess is infected and a bunch of infected are coming after them to give Joel and Ellie enough time to get away Tess stays behind intended to light a fire to kill them all. As the infected reach her one of them goes up and kisses her the… I don’t know what’s it call so I’m just going to say roots creep out of the infected mouth and right into Tess’. So yeah that’s what went though my head. I wonder if that was some form of inspiration for that.
