No, he answered perfectly to the question, that Biology Phd girl should know that women's fertility decrease like hell over time, the risk of having unhealthy baby is only increased, chromosome are also aging due to the cell division (Telomeres), he also explained that instead to lose her time making a Phd she would better to find a guy, settle down and having babies at her early 20's ! At 30 a women have lost huge part of her fertility and difficultly compete with a 20 girl in the dating scene.

I am Japanese, and his honest observation of our stagnant economy partly due to our xenophobic and obsessively narrow-minded views of our ethnicity IS SO REFRESHING TO HEAR even after all these years! But we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot and pretend to look qualified to be in the G-whatever-number Summits while we’re running a deficit economy and stealing from the collective pension savings. It’s a financial sh#thole. We’re really screwed here in Japan.

You have a choice, a blooming population or an ageing one. Unless you are good with paying double or even triple the taxes for welfare, There is only one solution. Other countries are huge. They may not be able to reproduce, but can take in immigrants with less complaints due to the size of their country, citizens do not complain as much as it does not affect them in a big way. For singapore, you can see trains getting more packed. But the consequences of not taking them in is bigger.

The best case scenario is a HDB-block shaped population graph. We produce enough people who support the older people and they live forever just as those below them are born exactly at the same rate they were born. The fact is, people die. At all ages but more at the top. If we want a future, we need more kids than we have retirees simply because some kids will die for whatever reason and the working class will one day grow old and burden their families.

lky talk about fact; the singaporean new generation are now becomes rarer, most which from better family background are study abroad and refuse to come back, or having settled/married on other country. and to keep singapore running they need man power, the quota of singaporean are getting low and low each year see the birth rate... that is why the imigran are needed and as key to keep singapore economy going and these imigran number keep rising each year...

@Lu5ck5 жыл бұрын
True yet false. The stop at two isn't law enforced but more of campaign. This isn't china where there is actual law punishing people for giving birth to more. In fact, my father come from a large family of several siblings. This campaign naturally come with less child support incentive to family that give birth to more than 2. Of course, the problem with this is that the government thought of the problem literally such as mentioned in the video, a couple need 2 babies to replace themselves. That is how they derive on the number "2". This is also in consideration of allowing Singapore infrastructure to keep up. However, reality is, not every family gonna give birth to exactly 2 children. Naturally, the government realize their mistake and start yet another campaign to encourage more birth. This again is done during LKY's time. Therefore, LKY did recognize the mistake.

I do not agree with pyramid population for any country. Economically, it is the best viable option, however, with the Economist saying that the world's food source might not support the world's population, is that not a shot in one's foot? Singapore has limited land size, does having a blooming population make sense at all?? pursue of higher education is a problem is a society's problem all over the world because progress is for a better life. So its not a very good rebuttal.

Huh.. Sengkang to city area in singapore is far away😩
@FirstUfoPilot201212 жыл бұрын
Part2: Thus if women make enough babies while they are young, population will be at the replacement level (2.1 to 2.3 in average), in Western countries we import huge number of immigrant which disrupt the social cohesiveness, and risk to have a population replacement (in Europe Muslim still very fertile). In Japan they have the same illness like Western countries, their women don't make babies, but Japan don't use immigration but at the price to have an aging and shrinking population !
@DoraTheDino13 жыл бұрын
@unholydanger Come on now, is it really hard? If you wish to live in a bigger house, drive a car, buy the latest furniture/handbag/electronics etc., obviously it is going to hard. If living a basic and simple life, it is fairly simple and there are plenty of opportunities in Singapore for you to "fufill" it. It is not me not "grasping the meaning" when survival and living fufilingly are 2 different things. Ps. both can be achieved if without too many wants.

Isn't it partially his doing, demand for ever raising education levels in order to secure decent and secure jobs are what are driving people to need to get advanced tertiary education. They have to compete harder for jobs going to other people. It's a vicious cycle and part of the reason why people like that poor girl having to study through a large part of her childbearing years, due to problems put into process by decisions he made in the past.
