I practiced Tai Chi for years, and I feel pretty lucky because my instructor didn't pretend it made you a master in fights. His philosophy was always "Tai Chi is great for exercise, balance, and learning how to twist up a willing volunteer. The only way to learn how to fight is to fight."

The guy punched in the face by Xu Xiaodong didn't even get rocked by that punch. He flat out gave up because of the surface pain, which was something he had never experienced. In that moment he realized "Oh, so this is fighting? This sucks, I don't want to do this anymore".

@mrkiky
@mrkiky 2 жыл бұрын
@@robinreiley1828 That's nonsense. You can't be a martial artist without fighting. The "martial" part in martial art refers specifically to fighting. If all you do is flail your arms and legs into empty air and quote deep sayings, you can call yourself a philosopher, a poet, a dancer, an artist, a pacifist, etc. You're as much a martial artist as you are a doctor for watching House MD, Scrubs and Grey's Anatomy. The whole point of martial arts is for the specific times when fighting cannot be avoided, so you better be good at it and give yourself the best possible chance to win.

Those words sound really cool to people who can't fight. People who CAN fight know that being hit in the face isn't going to deter them or make them forget their 'plans'. You would be able to predict fights based on who got hit in the face first if that was true. His real quote was “Everybody has plans until they get hit for the first time,” and it was about evander holyfield. Everyone knows Holyfield won and he didn't forget his plans after being punched so tyson was wrong and so are all the morons misquoting him.

Ba gua is the usual other style. And Tai Chi is capable of being used as a martial art. I incorporate it, Kung Fu, American karate, and ba gua to create an effective defense. The problem is when someone claims to have learned the martial applications of Tai Chi when they so obviously haven't. Every one of the people in the video showed a distinct lack of basic fundamentals and no upper and lower body coordination. Best example is against the kickboxer. The Tai Chi fighter never tries to turn him or bring him out of center alignment, a typical move against an aggressive opponent that would leave them open to a counterattack. I'm of two minds about these videos so far. I may comment again later.

No Tai-Chi was designed to be a martial art and it’s full name is Tai-Chi Chaun (Chaun means fist in Chinese, Cantonese I think as it was the original Chinese language). Over the years people have taken certain bits from Tai-Chi Chaun to develop what we in the west now know as Tai-Chi and use it as a meditative aerobic exercise so your comment is actually the wrong way round they didn’t take an aerobic exercise and make it a martial art it was a martial art that was made into a aerobic exercise.

Tai Chi is a brutal martial art, the issue is they don't train for fights. There's lots of amazing strikes and grappling techniques but jf you just practice form and rub each others arms (push hands) you'll never be able to fight. I honestly think the martial art of Tai Chi has been lost to time, the only situations where it's used effectively now are when it's used in combination with other more agressive styles of Kung Fu, and with full contact sparring. It's a shame really, tends to be an issue across most Kung Fu nowadays

@@dosidicusgigas1376 And i think its like they didnt even know that they cant fight untill they met ppl that actualy fights. Unnecessary movements, strikes with out power only side kicks are good. Thats what happened to Bruce Lee when he moved west, he found out that 90% of kung fu bullshit is not practical. Gene LeBell was just toying with Bruce and Lee couldn't do anything.Thats why he started Judo and Boxing, to make real and complete martial art, with ground game and real strikeing.

The guy fighting the bare-chested MMA fighter could probably become a great fighter if he trained in anything real. As it is, he still managed to kind of hold his own for a spell which is way more than 99.9% of all "masters" can accomplish. Of course, he won't get anywhere if he keeps this stupidity up but I think this is the first time I actually saw potential in one of these fake martial artists.
