Cody is right and not only that, MMA is a much healthier, less dangerous sport than boxing. When you knock someone down and out in boxing, they get to stand back up and keep fighting if they can get up in 10 seconds, which leads to severe head trauma when they start taking punches after already having a concussion. In addition, since the gloves are much bigger in BOXING than MMA, your face doesn't suffer as much skin/bone/tissue damage in boxing, but your BRAIN suffers the exact same amount of bouncing off the inside of your cranium aka concussive trauma as an MMA punch, yet there are far more punches per fight because of how long the rounds are, how many rounds their are, the fact that in MMA you take strikes to the legs or grapple on the ground and clinch for extended periods, but boxing is just left-right rinse-repeat, combine that with how fighters that have been concussed and essentially K.O.'d are allowed to get back up and "recover" to go on, and you've got a recipe for Long Term Brain Trauma. By contrast in MMA, once you knock someone out the fight is OVER as long as you finish it by making sure not to let up so that the ref steps in and calls the fight, this saves the losing fighter from more long term damage overall compared to boxing. Which is why retired boxing legends have parkinsons and other shakes/nerve damage/brain damage/dimensia, whereas in MMA they are significantly less so on average. You can go watch any amateur MMA event or prelims to a main event and inevitably some fighter has someone near beat, either knocked out or wobbling on their feet, but fails to finish strong and the fight continues and then the would be winner ends up losing, so it's one of the fundamentals they teach you in MMA - don't let up until the referee steps in and calls it. Of course there are always times when it's so definitive that you can get away with a walk off if you know what you're doing, but still risky.

This is MMA. You don't stop until the ref stops you. There have been instances where fighter A knocks out fighter B, but it was a flash KO and fighter B wakes up as soon as he hits the ground and they let the fight continue. This way there is no question who the winner is.

They are not agressive all the time, and they don't have to be angry to fight, it's actually the complete opposite, they need to be calm, cold and strategic, if you are just moved by emotion and go trowing hands completely mad and not thinking you will get knocked out in a matter of seconds in mma, that's why you see a lot of fighters having absolutely no emotion or a concentration face all the time no matter what they have the same face
@theonlyjonah793 жыл бұрын
MMA scoring is a 10 point system where the round winner gets 10 points, the opponent 9 or less. It's not like you're getting points for each strike you land, just the accumulation. They are fighters so even if they drop someone they are trained to keep fighting until the referee stops them. Some fighters know when they land the knockout shot and stop. Others, they keep fighting. There have been some amazing comebacks after getting knocked down. Watch Frankie Edgar versus Gray Maynard and you'll see a perfect example of why you keep fighting until the ref stops it. Just cause you knock someone down doesn't mean you stop fighting.

Its not like boxing. In boxing when you punch a guy and he falls down the ref has to start counting and he has to make it back to his feet before the ref is done. MMA is not like that. The reason you keep hitting them is bc the ref isn't going to stop the fight bc they got knocked down. Many times people jump on a guy and the guy on the bottom wraps his legs around them (This is called full guard) and prevents them from doing more damage. Boxing is also more dangerous. In boxing you get knocked down, get a chance to recover then the fight continues and you take far more punishment. In MMA its more often you get knocked down and hit a few more times and the fight is over. In boxing you also have no other option but to stand and punch each other. In MMA you can clinch, take the fight to the ground etc. People die in boxing every year. Only a few have died in MMA but no one has died in any major organization such as UFC, Bellator or One Championship. You guys should watch a best submissions video and that will show you another side of the sport.

@TheNeonParadox3 жыл бұрын
The reason to keep striking once they're down is to make sure it's a KO. Even if it seems obvious they're out, sometimes it's a temporary daze and people can recover. Referees often do a good job in breaking and calling the KO before they take too many excess strikes, but there have also been other cases where the aggressor literally had to stop himself because refs weren't calling the fight.
@a.a.ron21873 жыл бұрын
So the difference with CTE being more prevalent with boxers and not MMA fighters is that most of boxing is repeated trauma to the head. Even if you get knocked out in boxing, you can get up before the ref counts to 10 and get right back to taking punches to the head. MMA is more trauma to the whole body usually and the wrestling/jiu-jitsu takes away some head trauma at times.
@KevinKillaKam3 жыл бұрын
There's a thing called a flash ko. Where you knock them down and they appear temporarily out but come to right away. In general you keep attacking until the ref stops the fight. Hi yall, Always enjoy your reactions. I know it seems brutal but MMA as far as brain damage goes is safer than boxing. I see yalls point about strikes after someone is knocked out as being "unnecessary". With that said the fighter stops when the ref says. So many more "unnecessary" punches get taken in boxing. You can hurt a guy in boxing, and basically a timeout is called. The fighter "gets his barrings back" but may be concussed but seems ok to the ref and then go on to take many more "unnecessary" where as in MMA there's no timeout. So someone gets hurt falls then may take 3-10 unnecessary punches vs potentially many more. A man died because of the standing eight count. He got knocked down multiple times in the boxing match, on the last knock down he went to sleep and never woke up. If it was an mma match he most likely would have been finished after the first knock down, rather than taking all the "unnecessary" shots that ultimately took his life.

You gotta watch some full fights for it to make sense. So boxers end up WAY worse off later in life because they can technically get TKOd multiple times per fight so long as they can stand straight before the 10 count. In MMA, once the fighter gets KOd or TKOd, or taps out, that's it, the fight is over. So, in boxing a fighter usually gets on average way more concussions than MMA fighters.

Speaking from experience it’s ingrained in all people training in mma that if you were to ever be in a mma fight that you at all costs (within the rules of course) make the referee end the fight. So that’s why if they have someone hurt, unless it’s blatantly obvious the opponent is out cold, you apply more pressure and force the referee to step in to help save the other fighter, therefore ending the fight. Also very nice touch the video included a body shot. From experience the liver is one of the most short term painful experiences I’ve had while doing mma. Much rather get punched in the face. In the moment for me much easier to shrug off

As people commented, they are supposed to keep fighting until the ref stops the fight. People have recovered and won the fight. On the other hand, there have been fights where the fighter doesn’t want to keep hitting the guy, and the referee doesn’t stop the fight, and the winning fighter gets super mad at the ref. It’s not as bad as it looks tho. It’s safer than boxing. The fighters have more ways to defend themselves and once they’re out, the fight is over. This shows us the worldviews of how other ppl define the word "fighting". A big portion of the un-initiated still view hitting someone on the ground as taboo when really it was the long popularity of boxing that probably just made it that way. The more mma gets more common place it will change. They hit on the ground simply because it is allowed. Just like how nfl players can hit but not kick or punch, but it still violent as hell with the brain damage. This is not boxing. Mma was made to settle the debate of the best fiighting techniques in a ruleset closest to an all out no rules free fight to the death that could be legalized. So the ref jumps in right before the loser would have died, got crippled, or show i quit body language. Some refs fail tho lol. But deaths in mma are rare especially in well regulated smart promotions. Simply put if u fought someone in a street fight no one around to stop u both, who's to physically stop the other from doing watever they wanted to u, no one. No ref to say stand em back up or break it up like in boxing if it hits the ground. Its more realistic. In mma ref only breaks it up if a foul is committed or lozing fighter is about to prove that they cant win anymore(see wat i said above). Its brutal but 1 mans brutal is another mans tame or mild. My mom get squeemish over fake zombies on fiction tv shows so even 1 drop of real blood she gone, while my friend can watch a leg snap in half and not flinch. Once u guys watched 100 mma fights u get desensitized and used to it really.
