Hi, today I just encountered your channel. Doing Kickboxing for 4 years now and want to try out a MMA Club after lockdown. This video helped me a lot, I was wondering very long how this punch works as we never practised/ utilized it in Kickboxing? Maybe because of the different glove size its not working as good? Great Content very well explained. Thank you! Greetings from Germany!

thanks man ur a good teacher. I can imagine this punch would be super risky to try if someone was untrained as it would turn into the typical haymaker offtime punch you see too often in street fights

power comes from ur Hips...from the core centre of ur body.. movement should begin there, then it radiates up thru the torso, down thru the legs...ultimately it both goes into the ground and out thru the shoulders ,arms and fist...this is true of boxing and martial arts and most other sports as well, be it baseball,tennis,even golf.. it starts in the hips

My thumb always hurts on impact when I throw a overhead right. Why is that and how can I correct this?
@MMACoach79
@MMACoach79 5 жыл бұрын
Probably because you haven't positioned you hand correctly, so the punch lands on your thumb (quite a common mistake) and can get fractured (also common). The impact surface is the first two knuckles as I have explained it in the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYLdeaagocSeptU

@MMACoach79
@MMACoach79 7 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter. You will still perform an overhand punch with your back hand. I'm also a righty that fights in southpaw (I switched from orthodox a few years ago). BTW, you can also do an overhand with your lead hand. Robbie Lawler KO'd Melvin Manhoeff with a lead overhand in Strikeforce before he came to the UFC.

MMA Coach off topic but would you have any tips on how right handed southpaws can train up their left hand? I've found that I rely far too much on my (dominant) lead right hand in sparring. Thank you

savcob yes I agree, many people often forget the safety of the other guy, takes a man with a sane mind and a big heart to also think about the other guy if its outside of a sport, like something personal, in a street or school etc
