So that "palm outward" hook (also known as the Russian casting punch, or in traditional karate, _furi uchi)_ is definitely unconventional, but it was also Fedor's specialty and helped him win a lot of fights. At least in Goju-Ryu karate, you're supposed to flick your wrist as you whip your arm, bending your big knuckles towards your opponent's head and going rigid upon impact. It's a very snappy and surprisingly stiff blow when delivered correctly. At mid range, it can loop around your opponent's guard slightly better than a conventional hook, and unlike conventional hooks, it can still be used at long range as you can throw and land it with a straightened arm. However, at close range in traditional karate applications, it's meant to be a rabbit punch aimed at the back of your opponents head, which is obviously a no-no for MMA. So what Fedor used to do was use it as a sort of "option select" (fighting game nerds know what I'm talking about). At distance, he used it exactly as I described: a long-ranged hook that could do big damage and sneak around defenses. At close range, however, he used it to collapse into a clinch, as his hand would already be in position for an S-grip, so he could deftly glide into a very solid over-under body lock and let his godlike Sambo do the rest. Also, the way it's thrown naturally causes your arm and shoulder to rise up to protect your chin, and allow you smoothly slip to the side if you whiff. So it was a punch that could do multiple jobs and adapt regardless of the range it was in, which was vintage Fedor, one of the most versatile fighters of all time. Disclaimer: I am not saying that Fedor was a karateka, nor am I saying that the casting punch and _furi uchi_ are the exact same strike. I'm just saying that they're very similar and thus can have similar applications.
@nicholasnj37783 жыл бұрын
I leaned it as a modified ridge hand and hit with the "Hammer" (thumb /forefinger or even the wrist bone) or "the Long Hook" , yes like a whip, or like a ridge hand OSS / OSU / OOOSSSS
@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y3 жыл бұрын
British bareknuckle fighters also use it.
@Tenchigumi3 жыл бұрын
@@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y yeah, I can imagine that, since it delivers with the big knuckles, and the wrist angle likely prevents hand and arm fractures. As long as they don't land with the back of the hand, that is.
