I don’t blame Izzy or his coach for not wanting to fight Alex again but their record is 1-3 in combat sports against him. Alex didn’t ask to be fast tracked but when he was he knocked out arguably the best middle weight after losing most of the fight then agreed to an immediate rematch. Alex has been nothing but a competitor and has done what the UFC asked of him. If he wants a rematch to settle a true mma trilogy, I think he deserves it.

The ball is in Izzy and co's court. Remember Alex was KO'd which means he is suspended for 6 months. Izzy is an active champ and might wanna wait that long. Plus everything hints that Alex might move up, cuz that weight cut is fkn brutal for him.

bro that’s not how this works, Izzy wasn’t done a favour getting the rematch. he was dominant champion on the way to win the fight before getting ko’ed. just like Glover vs Jiri, that’s why Izzy got the rematch. on the other hand Alex was done a favour to get the title shot in the first place, so now he gets back in the line to work his way up & earn the trilogy

That's how he has gotten all his ko's in MMA. His ability to fight from a short distance while being so tall is extremely underrated because the taller fighter loses his height and reach advantages that way, especially while being defensive and offensive at the same time.

@@alcottdevalte7440 yeah, but he was willing to trade in the pocket way more in this fight than he usually does. Most fights he waits to counter, and then it’s over. I’m this fight he seemed to want to trade from the get go. Certainly the beginning of round two. I mean, at one point he even steps into the picket, and throws his hands up. He basically told Alex with that that he was willing to trade. Izzy is very rarely willing to trade, because as Eugene says, he never had to until now.

If what coach Eugene said is true about taking a calculate risk sitting in the pocket then that would make sense that Alex was getting in more strikes. In this interview it sounds as if they were trying to draw Alex in to throw certain shots so they could counter. We know Izzy is a counter striker but sounds like they were looking for a very specific opportunity to other times. Maybe they were looking for the same opportunities but took a slightly different approach.

I also caught that. Lol. Guy is so ignorant sometimes. I also found this hilarious at 24:38 Says Alex needs to go back and do "what the Anderson Silva's did to get to a title shot" 😂 Silva literally had 1 UFC fight and fought for the title in his second UFC fight. Lmao. Alex had 3 fights before a title shot.
@closinginonclosure
@closinginonclosure Жыл бұрын
Also GSP only had 4 fights before a title shot. That's only 1 more than Alex had. Isreal had 5 fights before his interim title shot but that's also because of what was going on in the division and probably mixed with the fact that most of those pre title fight wins weren decisions. Dominate KO's can sometimes speed up the process.
@yeyo6521
@yeyo6521 Жыл бұрын
@@closinginonclosure you can be obtuse all you like but he needs to fight other contenders to get a shot. Brandon Moreno had to fight twice; it's funny how you are citing when they got the shot but not what they had to do to get it again when it was lost + also forgetting how shallow the divisions were when they got their first title shots (mergers & acquisitions). Also - Alex didn't defend the belt but you want an immediate rematch. Make it make sense - even Max Holloway had to fight twice
@closinginonclosure
@closinginonclosure Жыл бұрын
@@yeyo6521 Oh, you're ignorant and slow, huh? Brandon Moreno literally fought Figgy 3 times back to back, then fought Kai, then fought Figgy again. And I'm not specifically citing what they had to do to get it when it was lost because that's literally NOT what Eugene was talking about. He was speaking to his initial path to the title and suggesting he was fast tracked and didn't have to go through the same path to a title shot as the other people he mentioned. So I was speaking to EXACTLY that. The path. He just wrong and that's not "obtuse" those are facts. But if you're reading wanting me to speak to their paths "after losing the belt". EVERY SINGLE ONE of the guys he listed lost the belt and had an IMMEDIATE REMATCH. So that point is ignored as well. There are other champions he didn't list, and more recent champions that had even shorter title runs than those guys and still got immediate rematches. Cody Garbrandt, Petr Yan, Stipe Miocic, Rose Namajunes, Juliana Pena, just to name a few. These are all facts. You may not like them, but it's just the truth. And as far as opinions are concerned. If you've already shown you can beat the top of the division, I'm not sure how necessary it is that Alex go down and fight guy's who aren't at the top. It sounds to me like a team that feels like they dodged a bullet and don't have confidence they can do it again. Otherwise, why not? Isreal has always said that he wants to fight the guys that people are scared of and the fans want. Everyone shouting about an Alex rematch and now he's changed his tune? 🤔

@@rajivsporkslede7860 We want the trilogy because we're fans of MMA and want to see another good fight. Pereira is not only 3-1 against Izzy, but two of those wins were knockouts. Izzy's last kickboxing match was against Pereira. He essentially ko'ed Izzy, made Izzy change sports, then came to his sport with years less of MMA experience, and knocked him out again. Pereira is not the one with something to prove. Izzy is. If I were Izzy, and I truly thought that I was the better fighter, I'd be begging for the rematch. The reason that Pereira doesn't need to is because he has already proven himself... 3 times in a row. It's unfortunate that Pereira is exiting his prime. This is my guess as why Dana White doesn't want a third fight between Alex and Izzy at Middleweight. Its because Alex would bring in significantly less money than Izzy as champ for UFC. The risk is too high for the UFC to lose Izzy as champion in a third fight. Izzy fits the entertainer mold that UFC wants to keep milking. We all saw that fight, if Alex played it slow for the long game, who knows what would have happened with those leg kicks. I also don't believe Izzy could actually do a lot of work through grappling on Alex just because Alex is so big and trains with the ex-LHW UFC Champ. I would assume Alex would have improved his grappling enough to hold off Izzy. Just my take, and I am a huge Izzy fan!

And biggest of all, he proved where he belonged in their first mma fight (which let’s be honest for once, their mma fights are kickboxing fights idc about Izzy’s 2 takedown attempts or whatever) when he took “the most prestigious belt” away from Izzy. This has “these guys are too close and Alex is too dangerous so if we can stay away from the rematch we’re doing it at all costs” written all over it.

Even poor speaking. 24:24 for example. He says it took "president" and goes on to say "president" multiple times. Probably 5-10 times throughout the interview. The guy is about 45 and still lacks the perceptiveness and intelligence to comprehend the word "precedence". He's been using the English language as a primary means of communication for hours per day for I believe 43 years, yet still hasn't figured out certain, basic words. That's hardly a genius. There’s so many weapons to learn how to defend against in just the striking aspect of MMA! Being a boxer it seems really strange that a lot of MMA fighter I watch don’t practice blocking or throwing the most basic strike………The Jab! It baffles the hell out of me! I thinking MMA fighters have so many aspects of the game to think about the Jab gets lost in the conversation, cause it’s consider so basic and simple! And that’s the big mistake! Because simplicity and efficiency of that strike is heavily under estimated. With all the big damaging strikes in the game! What’s a seemingly harmless jab compared to a sneaky spinning elbow or back fist right?…….Even the leg kicks, what’s a Measly jab compared to a nerve numbing kick to shin and calf?………Rang finding to land all those damaging strikes! Rhythm disruption….distraction, blinding line of site….scoring points……and theres different types of jabs! Power jabs, stiff, jabs speed jabs, back fist or open back hand jabs which can be very fast like a whip! The other aspect to these various jabs is foot work! The float like a butterfly Ali made a poem about is a real actual technique that’s just another dimension that can even be applied to fast kicks but anyway. The most important thing about the jab is timing! You must change your timing or rhyme so you don’t get timed! And the quick in and out foot work! What an asset to have an educated jab! It will make all those devastating strikes all the more effective in every way!
@TheTonyCAcc
@TheTonyCAcc Жыл бұрын
@@00788 jab is definitely important but it's usage is a lot different in mma than in boxing bro. Jab is the key for everything in boxing whereas in mma you can get shot on or arm dragged or kicked with a jab making your lead leg heavy. I trained boxing for two yrs and transitioned to mma with a few amateur bouts so it was quite confusing for me. Also the boxing stance is quite vulnerable in MMA. When you try to get in jabbing range, opponent can easily slip it and get a double leg or teep you out. I would say the jab is important in mma but definitely not as important as it is in boxing
@00788
@00788 Жыл бұрын
@@TheTonyCAcc I see you on that because I never competed in MMA I have to respect your words! But even in boxing a heavy Predictable jab can be countered one must have a quick step in and out which I would always teach my fighters! Let’s think about it! If your a good striker you want to land a powerful cross or reverse punch or overhand or hook right? All these strike you have to get closer in range to land then you do for a jab! So a jab has to be quick in and out of range in a eye blink and that’s where quick feet come in! Even in boxing there’s guys that don’t have good jabs and they get hit a lot! Plus when I watch MMA I see Fighters that get hit with jabs a lot! So the punch is effective because A lot of MMA fighters and boxers don’t know how to catch the jab it so simple it’s fundamental! Now sense MMA fighters switch stances you have to know how to catch with you lead hand when the jabs on the same side and with the back hand when the jab is on the opposite side! Timing is a big factor and leg kicks are highly effective against hand strikes. Range takes on another dimension that a boxers not use to! That’s for certain! Leg kicks may be as important in striking as a Jab definitely more damaging! But again if your going to throw powerful strikes with your hands you have to find range and the jab is the key! A good jab and quick step might discourage the leg kick especially if power strikes follow them! Broken rhythm, timing, speed, accuracy, power! Keys to striking!
@TheTonyCAcc
@TheTonyCAcc Жыл бұрын
@@00788 yessir. Everything you said is true. Everyone can have a better jab. Usman is a good stiff jab and with mma gloves it can put ppl out. I've noticed that boxing range is a bit one step back from punching range so a step in jab can land. But in mma the typical range is about two to three steps back making the step in jab a bit more noticable and giving the opponent more time to react. But yes, I feel like everyone can work on their jab and get it better.

Eugen explained this in the interview. If you look at the sequence where Alex almost got finished in the first mma fight he leaves his chin wide open. When Alex kicked Izzy before the finishing sequence he Izzy’s leg 100% was hurt. But Izzy saw it as an opportunity to shell up against the fence. Alex smelled blood and tried to finish Izzy. Unfortunately alex got sloppy and Izzy found an opening and took it. Whether you are an Izzy fan or a hater you can’t help but see that as poetry in motion.

If it was the opposite, Izzy and his team would call for the trilogy immediately.

I don't see how anyone can react to those leg kicks of Periera the only way to avoid them is to take him down lol

Alex doesn’t want the fight, Alex is the one that ruled it out, he has said his next fight will be at 205, he’s already proven 3 times that he can beat Izzy. Time to move on to better competition. 👊👊

Alex Periera can boast defeating Israel and taking the belt from him. Who else in the middleweight division can say they did that and what use is it to hide behind a whole division that couldn't do what Poatan did?

Some of yall just hate on Izzy just to hate. Like one of them just has to die in the ring for the narrative to be over. Shessh. Two great fighters, one of the greatest rivalry, two of the best strikers in UFC history.

Alex just announced a few minutes ago that he is absolutely going to 205 and he has an opponent that he cant mention yet. 205 is getting interesting!

MW is never good for Alex (the dude reminds me of Dustin Porier who had a much better chin at 155 compared to at 145).

@@draco2xx because only izzy haters wants a rematch lol, makes no sense too to have 0 title defense knocked out cold in 2nd round and you would get immediate rematch.

Eugene sounds like Micky in Rocky when he didn't want him to fight the Russian. Alex puts fear in him so he wants to avoid the rematch at all cost.

24:38 Says Alex needs to go back and do "what the Anderson Silva's did to get to a title shot" 😂 Silva literally had 1 UFC fight and fought for the title in his second UFC fight. Lmao. Alex had 3 fights before a title shot.

I agree with everything up until the final question : Why not do the rubber match? And his response is: Because Alex didnt deserve the first title shot in the first place. We all know he got a fast track and he didnt beat a lot of top guys to get his title shot. But dont you think beating Israel again in MMA is proof he’s right up there with him in terms of best MW in the world?? And perhaps the only guy to be able to beat him at that division. Of all the guys who had failed against Izzy with loads of MMA experience, and the guy who has less than 10 total fights is the one to beat him! Imagine that! The reasoning for their refusal to fight him a 3rd time doesnt make sense to me but it is what it is. Its like you can hear him admit how hard this victory was to achieve earlier in the interview when he says: We traveled all over the world to fight this guy and we finally beat him once. It’s like Jeez man why not just say Im Glad we got lucky this time 😅I think they just dont want to risk losing it all again. They know Alex would come back with a better strategy and be more cautious.
