Tickle fight! What the problem is with micro-transations is that all of these quality of life upgrades, skins, and boosts were readily available in every full price game made until they realized they could leave out or take out portions of the game and sell back to the player for more money. It's grimey.
@robbiemedica26528 ай бұрын
No, no they weren't. Games have gotten bigger and longer and more full of stuff over times. An RPG with over 40 hours of playtime would've been absolutely unheard of back in the 90s for example. And we should at least acknowledge the fact that games have barely gone up in price, despite inflation and development costs going through the roof.
@xCori91x8 ай бұрын
@@robbiemedica2652It is not true. A LOT of RPGs were 40+ hours in the 90s, I'm not sure where do you get this from... MTX is terrible, because they usually make the games more grindy just so they can sell you the stuff... in Dragons Dogma's case at least it's not true but a lot of single player games make you grind more just so you buy the stuff from them which is bullshit.

I understand that "gaming culture" has shifted to wanting to hold these developers/publishers accountable when they make bad decisions. And while it appears "whiny", it is 100% the right thing to do as consumers if we want to get good games. Excusing these companies simply because they've done it a bunch of times before and that "it's expected" is a really bad mindset. We should always push towards a better industry for everyone's sake. That being said, I agree the uproar in the community is massively unjust and unfair. A lot of people seem to jump the gun upon seeing an $70 game also has microtransactions, and immediately reach for the pitchforks. I believe these microtransactions are not inherently bad, and I'll go as far to say that Capcom is actually doing it right. The base game by itself without the microtransactions is 100% a complete game. These additional purchases are entirely optional and by no means lock away any significant content. It isn't "pay to win" as there are other methods to obtain these items without spending additional money. While it may appear predatory that the game is grindy by nature and these DLCs allow you to circumvent that, It's entirely up to the player to make that decision. If you don't like it then don't buy it, the option is there for the people who do. The people who are mad that this is even an option seem to forget; There's mass industry layoffs going on all around. It's still a business at the end of the day, and I believe its fair to have these options available if the game is still complete without them. The industry keeps evolving and these companies need to adapt. If good games like DD2 flop because of irrational hate and misinformation, then we doom ourselves to a future with less games similar to it, which really is a shame.

I gotta say, I’m with Rob when it comes to micro transactions, they have their place and I like them. As someone who plays a bunch of games but also works and has university and a lot of life going on, sometimes I don’t have the time to grind for hours on end, but I do have $20 to spare that will let me enjoy the game more. I like the fancy skins, and cool cosmetics, and I’m perfectly fine paying for that over having to grind for hours on end, cause I don’t have those hours so there is a good chance I’d never get those cosmetics I wanted. Also that comment about “anything that makes the poor’s cry gets a buy from me” was hilarious.
