Usually, one can watch shoulders and elbows... but with this, even a flick of the wrist can inflict a lot of damage --- and there is no way to react in time. The stick has a lot of reach too. I have no clue how one defends against this (other than run). Awesome martial art.

Filipino here! Just so you know, the stick-fighting is beginning level, afterwards you move onto knives (blunt of course when youre training) and then open-handed fighting once you mastered the previous ones. Let's say, you get conditioned by legit getting thrown into the fire.

I train everyday for about 2 hrs, this includes pads, heavy bag work and sparring depending on the day. I also swim for cardio. Trying different martial arts is so much fun, and I can't express enough how long time hobby-ists should do it, and don't take a break from jiu jitsu to focus on judo. Take 3 months off and do Tai Chi, or maybe pick up fencing, something completely different. None of it matters, but it's just another fun physical activity that your body will enjoy doing. Tai Chi though was a blast, look up your closest school.
