Thanks for showing us what the Beaver can do. I'm too old to fly anymore, but my fondest memories are flying a Challenger 2 and a Flightstar single place. I have about 200 hours in them.

That was pretty darn cool and even a little "scary" myself! I was relieved a little when I saw what your ultralight was rated for as far as G forces. I used to fly paragliders so I'm familiar with flying "flimsy"!!! And when I read you were going to do "aerobatics", I imagined myself up there hearing not only the increasing speed of the wind, angle changes and I can almost relive the experience of doing wingovers, spiral dives and various induced collapses and recoveries on my glider. I couldnt help but think that I'd also be very aware of hearing all of those tubes and metal parts your plane is made of as it flexes and strains with the g loading and in the back of my mind even if I couldn't hear that, I'd be wondering about at what exact point will the weakest tube/part or wing break. As much fun as I had doing them in a paraglider, I bet its a lot more fun doing them in your plane. I'm glad you put an awful lot of research into doing them, I'm impressed by that. And I'm sure thats been a huge confidence builder for you! Great video fir me as I almost felt like I was reliving the old experiences from many years ago all over again. Be careful and don't get overly confident!!! We always want to keep pushing that outer edge fear barrier more as we gain confidence by doing them many times. Just keep that in mind. Have fun!

Aerobatics in the states are defined something like "an abnormal attitude or acceleration" (very vague), need 1500 ft AGL, there are no pilot requirements (regardless of carrying passengers or not), experimental planes need to test the maneuver in phase 1 and write the entry speed in the aircraft logbook (no requirement on who flies the test), and everyone needs a parachute if exceeding 30° pitch or 60° bank with a passenger. The other things (weather, populated areas, airspace) sound the same. Fun stuff Matt 🤙

That was absolutely awesome, that's very practical maneuvers I was thought by my instructor back in the day when I was taking my flying classes. Practice is always great because when the emergency arises you are ready. Keep on keeping on. Blessings.

I believe due to acrobatics there would be faster wear and tear and may be more stresses than normal. So the frame or components that should be changed late, will have to changed faster.

That's why Olympic-level athletes have such short careers. Aerobatic maneuvers in an airplane probably produce the same effect.

@@commentatron I Just want Matt to continue to make videos but make sure he doesn't cheap out on parts when it comes to change them. Just be thoughtful of frame components etc.

@@learndesignwithdev Same here. He seems pretty conscientious, though, so I think he'll be okay.

A friend of mine had one of these beavers and he had a wing strut bolt shear off on a takeoff. Luckily he was only a couple feet off the ground when it happened and only sustained a couple bruises.

Nice flyin, would be nice to include somehow the radio traffic or chatter if there is one, also hows the landing and take off procedures, like can you land wherever you want with a small plane (Cessna) or does it have to be an ultralight?

I was wondering also about the g forces, but I guess that is a sturdier craft than it looks. Is there a particular reason for the nose wheel to be ocscillated back and forth just before it hits the ground or is that action connected to the rudder? Anyway, neat flight! Take care! 😎👍
@mmatt

It's connected to the rudder. And yes, it's a very sturdy airframe. :)

Looked like a lot of fun! Last time I went flying (all too long ago) was w/ my first instructor in his Ercoupe. We did wing-overs, and he showed me a basic hammerhead, which was very gentle in that plane. I enjoyed all of this, but had to be mindful of adding throttle too fast; the carburetor on that C-85 lacked an accelerator pump, so there was a definite hesitation if the throttle was jammed on too quickly. And I learned how, at 8:55 in your video, how to add 30 minutes to your evening flying time; just remove your sunglasses!

David Clark H10-13.4 with the extra thick gel ear pads. I just disassembled them and bolted them to my helmet. I also run PlugFones to help block out the extra noise that I get from the lack of doors.
