Yeah its casual, convenient, overdone dogshit now. Infinite TPs, no space to move, glyphs, personal couriers make laning feel so boring (lol enemy got a salve and mango brought to them so my harass = worthless), Getting TPs on death (lol I messed up and died, but its to my advantage), TPing into trees, maps small and cramped as shit now. Wards on every cliff, because free and you can get 3x as many than you used too, making fun solo ganks nigh impossible. Cant even split push barely because glyphs, towers having 4x the armor and regen, and 5 people TP into the treelines. Pro scene ruined the game tbh. They nerfed all the fun out of it to adapt to what pros were doing.

Yeah. I was back there in 2011, played for many years, then didn't play for a few years. (I believe 2014 or 2015 was last time I've played Dota 2 regularly). Now I've returned to it and yeah. It feels so similar, yet so different. People are now sticking in 5 almost all the time. Battles for runes. Map feels so small and open compared to what we had before. Looking at this map, brings back old memories of much simpler times...

It feels like they've balanced the game to a point where all heroes can jungle now thanks to ability changes, item changes and the implementation of neutral items. This was never possible back then and only a hand full of heroes could actually jungle. I tried playing Boodmother the other day since like 7 years ago, her q is now her ultimate and her ultimate is now her Q. Incapacitating bite has been replaced with some shooting web and she's no longer invìs in her webs. It felt nothing like brood anymore. The game has changed significantly, I still prefer the old game to be honest. Heck, I see drafts that would never have won completely dominate now, I'm sitting there like wtf just went down. Still fun game all round with such a loving toxic community :D

I played the original 3.76 Eul's version of dota from 2002-2003 and it's scary how much it's the same game, even after 20 years. Okay, obviously 20 years ago things were different - destroying enemy barracks prevented enemy creeps from spawning in that lane anymore, you could give gold to other players, there were no tp's, last hitting under the tower was a real nightmare but last hitting in lane was easier, items had cooldowns so if someone buys some item it can't be bought again by anyone for 8 min or so (depends on the item), neutrals chased you across the whole map if provoked and didn't return to their camps, etc., but down to the core it's literally 90% the same MOBA formula we have today. Back then, 3.76 was popular, however people were pissed because no tps and a big map meant that pushing and global tp spells were too op, and healing was too strong in fights, you had to coordinate all your spells and damage a lot to have a chance to actually kill anyone. So people wanted an improved version of dota. When frozen throne came out, the tools that Eul used suddenly became more ready andf available to everyone (it wasn't in RoC) so people started making their own dotas; Eul, wanting to improve his RoC dota versions, created his basically dota 2 or gamma version to frozen throne it even had neutral towns with a tower and guardians and you could kill everyone in that town and destroy the tower to capture the town, filling it with your own guardians (stronger creeps/minions), being able to buy unique items, and having buffs from it. Also, killing neutral creeps in the jungle had a 42% chance to drop an orb, which could be applied to any item to buff its stats. There was also a well in the middle which could be captured to give buffs. However, people didn't like this version because the map was HUGE + no tp, and the tree layout was shit (just lines of trees, ganking was hard), and it was full of unfinished stuff and bugs, so most people left and switched to other dota versions. 2 guys, that C-guy and dreka fixed his map and improved it a lot, but it was too late, dota all stars already hit off. That's when the various devs, Guinsoo, Neichus, others, and finally Icefrog area was a thing. Deep down though, today's mobas are pretty much 90% similar to Eul's early 3.xx versions of dota, except for heroes of the storm of course, that game has a lot of tf2-like elements, no items, shared team exp and so on.

I jammed this game hard from 2013 to 2015. I've just returned about a month or 2 ago. It's taken me time to adjust, it's a whole new ball game. Drafts that would have never have won for some reason dominate. It seems they've tried to balance heroes more to a point where they all strong. I think the old dota was a lot better, but they have certainly made some adjustments that definitely were needed.

Yep, old dota was so much more simpler, yet more broken. In my big dota 2 phase in 2014-2017-ish, I played a lot, quit it and played on and off for the next years. Played a game of Dota 2 yesterday and so much has changed, but you can still tell it is fundamentally the same game it was over 10 years ago, graphically and gameplay-wise

btw, as i remember in dota the default keys for skills werent the regular q,w,e,r. They were all different for each hero- like pudge- rot was-t or r. Basicly the hot keys for skills were first or last key of the skills name!

a game can be ended by 16 minutes in all of the 3 big MOBAs (LoL, HoN, DotA2) but it can also take over an hour. it all depends on many variables, like your teams pushing power, teamfights, competence of every player and OF COURSE if your enemies just refuse to lose to you^^ (cause then the big plays happen) try some games for yourself and get more into the games, then you will find your own answers =)

LoL recently announced they reached 32+ million players of which 11.5 mil play monthly and 4.2 mil daily, still growing with thousands a week. DOTA used to be the brand name of the genre, but LoL has built on the original idea and took over first place by far. Also, the element of unlocking new champions gradually makes the game that much more addictive. But I'm sure DOTA 2 will have a well deserved 2nd place.

@UnholyImport Let's see. Eol created first dota for RoC based on AoS for SC1. When TFT came out he didn't update it so a bunch of people made different versions. Guinsoo gathered, I suppose, the best from those different versions and created dota allstars. For the next few years he added, mixed and stuff on that until he moved on to Riot and gave producership to Icefrog. Something like that So no, icefrog didn't create dota

Btw, the pudge hook got buffed in DotA 1 because they realized lvl 1 hook is baby dick size not long ago to scale like in DotA2. And the so called Legacy settings are the hotkeys currently for Pudge in DotA1.

u get steam and search dota 2 and scroll down until it says take dota 2 survey and put the answers for what have u done in the past dota, (i put mine for league, you don't change it u just out it for what game u played if u didn't play dota 2) but there is what ur fav character is , i put random, but then when thats done it says u have to wait for the invitation that invites u 2 play dota 2 (might take up to 4 weeks, if u do get it it'll be in the email u signed up with steam. hope this helps!

Based on the fact that there are so many people who still play Dota and the fact that Dota 2 is Dota with all the features DOTA players have wanted and so much more. A standalone game with a better engine, better graphics, proper matchmaking/ELO, replays, a spectator mode, soon to be tutorials, a coaching system, a player commendation system etc..... Valve is actively promoting and trying to make Dota better with each passing day...
