Solo stove recommend putting the larger thicker pieces of wood in first....in effect an upside down fire. I haven't seen much difference in that way or your way though. They are great stoves made by a first class company. My Solo Campfire, which I bought 4 years ago from Amazon, developed a problem - the bottom section, where the ash is collected, dropped and blocked the air intake holes. It looked like a couple of welds had failed. I contacted the company (in the USA) last Wednesday and a brand new Solo Campfire arrived in the post today (Tuesday) here in the UK. It was replaced under warranty. I did not expect that. So a big shout out to Solo Stoves.

Nice video, I am in the Nordics and was looking for a good fire stove, I was going to get the titan model, but once I saw your video and saw the size differences in the store, I could see the campfire was the better choice for casual outdoors in the forest in my backyard... If you use it on snow does it melt down to the ground if you don’t insulate the bottom? Also when sitting as a group around it does it give off comparable heat to open fire of similar size?
@MattMolnar103 жыл бұрын
I think it would eventually melt down, but the bottom stays surprisingly cool, so not as fast as you would think. Your second question is hard to quantify, but I would say that an open fire would throw more heat to the sides. The solo stove is really for "up close and personal" warming.

Do you prefer the campfire pot or the titan? Of course the larger stove needs less attentions or tending to but there's also a trade off in weight. Where's or what's the sweet spot?
@MattMolnar103 жыл бұрын
I guess it really depends on your intended use and how you will carry it. The campfire is great for just warming up or enjoying a fire per se, but it is large to carry. If your need is cooking, it is more suited to a group of three or four, where the titan is more practical for one or two, Being lighter and taking up much less space in your pack.

What is the pot you used on it? Not sure if you said Morris or Moores

Hi Matt Nice video. How do you think the Solo Stove campfire will heatup a tipi in the winter? I live in Norway and normally we use a stove with pipe, and they are a bit heavy to carry with you.

Good question, Frank. I've wondered that myself, seeing I have a TentTipi Safir 7. Haven't had a chance to try it though.

@@MattMolnar10 Any update on this? I also have a tentipi and am curious.
@MattMolnar10 Жыл бұрын
@@escaped7036 No, I haven't tried it. My guess would be that it would not be optimal, because the Solo stove requires feeding every several minutes. Other than that, I think it would heat up a small tepee. For sitting in the evening or warming up in the morning it could be a good solution.

Did it produce enough heat for warmth?
@MattMolnar104 жыл бұрын
Hi Tara! Yes, it throws a good amount of heat. It’s still a small fire, compared to a typical campfire, so you need to sit a bit closer. I would say four people could sit close enough and still have enough personnel space between them, if that makes sense. Of course, if you get desperate for more heat, you can simply dump the fire out onto the ground and add as much wood as you need.
@jkpinpdx4 жыл бұрын
How well does it give off radiant heat? How many feet out you think?
@MattMolnar104 жыл бұрын
I would think of it as suitable for a small group of 3-4 friends , sitting fairly close.
