You seem to be confusing two issues. Higher frequencies take more energy to provide the same signal strength, all else being equal. However, antenna gain can be used to compensate for the path loss. The engineer will look at available power, required signal strength and path loss and then determine the antenna gain needed.

So if I were to try to set up an antenna for my 5G n260 capable modom...would it not be a good idea to use a singular parabolic antenna with a wr28 to coaxial adapter on the back and then connect that to my modem? Are you saying it has to be an array with smaller elements due to the nature of the frequencys wave?
