Fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, 44, stands trial in the alleged murder of George Floyd, 46. As seen on the footage, the defendant kneeled on the victim’s neck for minutes until after the man became unresponsive during an arrest over an alleged counterfeit $20 bill on May 25, 2020. Jurors must determine under the law if Floyd died because of Chauvin’s actions, or if it was really something else. The medical examiner noted that he also had arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease, and also fentanyl, and evidence of recent meth use.
Both sides jockeyed over evidence amid jury selection. Judge Peter Cahill ruled jurors can hear evidence Chauvin once told another officer in a separate arrest to apply a Hobble restraint-a kind of a restraining belt used by law enforcement-in a “hog-tie” position although a woman allegedly did not put up much resistance. The state can also show evidence that the defendant knew how it was dangerous to kneel on the neck of the prone Floyd.

I imagine he would have had experience in providing testimony from the years of his profession. The civilian witnesses are there to tell the truth also and give testimony but one, would not be adept at being in court and secondly, being affected by being a witness at the scene where they witnessed a man die and could not get Mr Floyd help are bound to want to get their point across. It is totally understandable.

I dont get the question about would/how common is it that youd decide not to hobble someone after deciding to hobble them when someone starts having an energency after youve decided to hobble but you havent yet applied the device. 🙄 Am genuinely curious about what was going on there. They Didnt end up hobbling him, just sitting on his neck for 10 mins to Hold him...? (Did chauvin Ever even once Mention a hobble...?) He HAD the emergency DUE to having his neck sat on, not randomly for no reason in between chauvin deciding to hobble but before he actually applied the device. Everyone should understand that if the knee on the neck killed him, why was he saying he can't breath when they were first trying to get him in the car. Make we wonder if the drugs were already causing a cardiac arrest that will keep a person from breathing. I'm sure police hear all kinds of excuses to not get arrested, just like Floyd did in 2019. You can see him setting in the back of a cop car just one year before this with no words of being claustrophobic.

@awright119021 2 жыл бұрын
I do believe the drugs and stress played a role in his death, but I'm sure having 2-3 people on him for that long did as well. You can't ever know if he would've died without the police doing that, especially Chauvin on the neck area. You can't know if he would've survived if they had started cpr once he was unconscious. It's a messed up situation in which the officer should've helped the person in his custody at the very least. I can see why he was found guilty although I do think the sentence was a bit much. On top of that, if he was innocent, he would've been convicted anyway to avoid a huge riot/ total destruction so good thing he wasn't.

@@coriparc about officer with bright,green eyes and sharp chin,his photo is used publicly,but he wasn't presented. He is hopefully ok. This second Mr very similiar, almost identical in court😷is most probably his monozygotic twin.There are small differences: his eyes are more dark green almost brown and chin is more round. They are both innocent people

How about they stopped restraining him and he kelp freaking out and flailed around and hit his head? That’s their fault too, right? From now on just let big high dudes w violent records go if they don’t want to be arrested and let the community deal with them. Oh no when they injure the community that’s the cops fault too.
