I hate all the ads but had it not been for you tube I would not have discovered all the beautiful, inspiring Celtic music from Brittany, Ireland and Scotland. How wonderful to belong to the same species as the divine creatures that perform these wonderful songs.

The only way to describe Julie's music is like a massive hug from a loved one filling you up with peace and an almost undefinable warmth.

I just "discovered" Julie back in October and I'm addicted to her voice. I listen to her every night and she never fails to calm me down from the stresses of the day. Simply the clearest, sweetest voice I've ever heard in my life.

Great that the old songs and language are being preserved. We need to thank the islanders from Scotland and Canada for that.

My wife and I danced our first dance at our wedding to this song, and it still makes me cry. It is the most beautiful song in the world. Seeing Julie for the second time at the Perthshire Amber Festival with Dougie MacLean on the 29th of October! Cant wait!!!!

English translation: Whether he or the others were drinking There would still be plenty on the table Chorus (after each verse): The drink would be in my love's hand Here's a health to the chief The drink would be in my love's hand A boat was seen on the waves And the red hand at the helm I saw it passing through the straits With a clump of heather on the sail-yard You who saw her out at sea Bless the fair ship and her crew Bless her high masts and her equipment Her moorings and her sails Though I am here in Coll I long to go to Rhum And from there to Uist Were I to get my wish

Jenna Reid is simply lovely, both back when this was recorded and now. And not just her physical beauty either; she is as good a Shetland fiddler as there is (at least to my knowledge). She holds her own with Aly Bain, and when you watch vids of the two of them playing together, you can see his respect for her on his face. Such fluid, emotive playing. I can't seem to get enough of her.

Yep. Continuing his streak of playing "just the right notes" here. He's somewhere up in the millions by now. As is his streak of "music played with wonderful musical artists". What a joy that had to be, playing with these folks and Julie is a really striking woman. Don't know what it is, but I think she's as beautiful as she is wonderful to listen to.

Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever". All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.

History, culture, and language is carried forward in part through traditional music. I'd love to see more of it finding its way into our schools, thoughtfully presented. There is a sad hole in the heart of our language arts and music curricula that needs filling!

Julie & Jenna are Scottish - from North Uist & Shetland respectively. The language sung is Gàidhlig, Scotts Gaelic. Just thought I'd mention this. Although or course Donal Lunny is Irish

I have been studying the language for a bit. One thing I found is that coming from a background where all my grandparents spoke the language I had an appreciation for the rhythm of the language because of the way my relatives spoke English. Their English was not standard English, but instead was heavily influenced by Gaelic.
