I am a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. The recent interest in food, combined with a large amount of 'misinformation' has driven me to start this channel. I hope to be someone people can relate to and trust when they question how their food is grown and raised. I also hope to become a 'smarter' farmer through my experiences with this channel. I strongly believe we must have an open mind and a willingness to learn about others, or we cannot move forward as one. My goal is to build the connection between farmers and consumers by facilitating a collaborative conversation amongst everyone. I do this by sharing my day-to-day farming experiences, my opinions on certain topics, and occasionally visiting other farms and businesses to help better understand other farming and business practices. There is no limit to where this channel may go, so please join me!!

@farmerintheboot4089
@farmerintheboot4089 6 жыл бұрын
It should be noted not every farm is like this. Some if not most just get by. And as far as being organized and clean everyone does things their own way. The way that works best for them. Some don’t have the resources in order to put sheds up and have updated equipment. My dad has struggled for 40 years feeding cattle and farming a little land. We’ve used the same old worn out equipment for decades. It’s too expensive for us to update. And as far as the equipment being clean well we have a feed yard it’s never clean. So when you say a lot of farmers have no organization and have nasty dirty farms. I’m sure they wish they could have a farm like the one in the video, I do. But like I said it most likely isn’t in their means. Don’t degrade farms that looks nasty compared to this one, doesn’t mean they don’t care maybe they’ve had a rough go at it. Farming used to be dirty. Personally I’d like to see fewer large operations and more smaller farms.

When your machinery is clean it makes it a lot easier to spot oil leaks, loose fasteners, stress/fatigue cracks, cracked hydro lines, etc... Not to mention it's a lot easier working on a machine that's clean. Also, a lot of items used on the farm and produced by the animals on the farm can be rather corrosive. So a good bath can help keep corrosion at bay.

Thanks so much for the tour. One of the fun things to do on the farm for us was the rock picker. Don't know why, just seemed like a lot of fun. I grew up on the farm but it was back in the day. Our tractor of choice was the Farmall Super M. Didn't know what a cab was. If you were really high dollar you might have had a heat houser. All our corn was harvested with a two row picker. We were general farmers. Raised hogs, cows, beef cattle. Lot less equipment headaches back then.

It seems like upgrading to the 12 row header would be a good investment since the combine can handle it. Even without increasing the downstream handling, you'd be able to just drive slower. You'd be cutting out a third of the passes which would save wear and tear (you'll get a third farther before the "axle has fallen off" sensor goes off!). It would also make harvesting the test plots much simpler. I don't see any drawbacks....oh ya, EXPENSIVE. Another great video, Zach. Thanks.

We run green also. Not that they always make the best tractor, but they currently have the best dealer in my area. We ran some agco prior grew up on whites. Agco parts just can’t get it done here for some reason. Nice lineup. Good explanation of why you went certain ways. If we all had New York Yankees type of money I imagine the lineup would look different. But like you said sometimes the cost doesn’t justify the upgrade.

MN Millennial Farmer the name of the case ih dealer here is Ag West Supply... nicknamed Ag Worst by the locals. My cousins have always had red. I like who can service me best and doesn’t leave me hanging because a little part broke and I have rain coming. John Deere this spring sent a tractor out as a demo so I could finish planting when my old IH couldn’t do the job. It was like you Minnie, very reliable till that day. But when push came to shove my dealer made the difference. Thanks for the video. Entertainment while I’m babysitting an irrigation pump. We’ve been harvesting for about three weeks now. Two months left to go. Hope things go well for you! Mother Nature has been kicking our butt this year.

So few folks understand what a tough business farming is...specially since commodity prices are so depressed right now. Lucky farmer you have all of that, while we're stuck with a JD 2955, and JD 6400 and t5, that is it for us we farm in the Saint Mary's river Basin. In Florida. We now have to drive 140 miles to the state capital to sell anything, except form and cane chews which we deliver to a horse feed plant. Cedar Creek Farms, Sanderson Florida.

Great job, love the duals on combine and tracks on planter, I agree with less compaction, I run 800 metric on our 9500 in southern Illinois, also love you keeping history alive with the G 750. I have a 1971 Oliver 1755, but by then ,both MM and Oliver were owned by White. Great to see them older tractors still alive, we only farm little over 100 acres, do it all with Oliver equipment, do well over 1400 custom with 9500 combine all three crops. Keep up the good work.

With the added capacity of a 40ft draper on your 9870, you could elminate the 9650 altogether just about. I farm with my dad and uncle, we have a '16 S670, first year we ran it with the old 35ft auger head we had from the previous s670, and traded for a new draper in '17 and have been wowed by the difference. It made a class 7 machine perform like a class 8 in beans. 1-1.5 mph faster in 70+ bpa beans, dumping on the go never bothers anymore! We also got our first track tractor this year after a horrible experience with our 9560R on wheels. We put 20K in repairs to that machine last year, had 1800 hours on. My advice, watch er close and do the head gasket PIP from deere. Torque damper went out, fan clutch went out, EGR and EGR control valve were shot, turbo failed as well. it was a tough year! Grease them fan clutches, if they get bad enough a snap ring that holds the gear on that gets driven from the cam can break and ruins the entire top end, possibly the whole motor......
