Moving and blowing snow as slowly as I could! Things don't always go right and sometimes the job takes longer than it should!
MN Millennial Farmer, Zach Johnson, is a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experience on the family farm. His vision is to build the connection between farmers and consumers.
Zach's mission is to become a national voice for agriculture, provide farmer-to-farmer education, and facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Don't you just love those 5 minute jobs that end up taking 5 hours out of your time, lol P.S. back in the day when my uncle owned dump trucks, backhoes and road graders in garage working on them we used to use kitty litter for any oil spills, works great and a lot cheaper than what you are using to just sweep it away in the garbage.

Story of my life. If need to just move some tractor out of the way, say 2min "job", i have to start by fixing my tools, after i have searched them for some two hours, yeah then fix them some 5 hours and then i can begin the engine rebuild of that tractor because of course the crankshaft is broken just then. So.. after some week or two of 200h of work, i get to move it that 5 meters out of the way. This goes for everything. lol.

When I have to make a hose like the one you have I have them cut the hose a little longer than needed and have them crimp on one end. Take the hose and connect it where it is to be used. If it is a little long you can now trim it to the exact size you need. Having it in place and attached at each end you can get the hose to lay as it will when finally installed. At this time mark the end that is not crimped on the fitting and the hose. A small white paint pencil works great for this. If the end moves when you remove it you can turn the fitting to the spot marked and then have it crimped. Usually with one straight end you have some room for adjustment but on a hose with both ends turned such as 90* or a 45* fitting the paint mark gets the hose timed right with no guessing. At $38 a fitting errors become costly. It does mean one more trip to town to get the second end crimped but a little gas is worth the $100 investment. With the hose being so short and fat you have no room for error. Some times you can do away with the costly swivel fitting at one end if you do this. Some times adding a swivel makes it easier to connect the finished product.

Shouldn't JD take back the hose they improperly resized and not charge you extra for the 2nd hose? You brought them the hose for sizing, it was their job to use whatever hose and connectors they had to replicate the hose, if they failed to do that, well then they shouldn't charge you for it.

You got a nice throw on that blower a good 130 feet, thats what you wanna see bro, Id know, i am Canadian! im not sure if you are aware of this but quick hitches are much quicker when they are on the tractor first :p That hose is an easy fix, we just make them to fit at the dealer as needed

Let me get this straight. You traded a combine and head for a head in return? Sounds to me like you got "hosed". Lol

$70k combine and $15k header for a $100k header, I’d guess he had to throw some money towards that deal.

I don't miss the white stuff. Just a southern Minnesota boy, down in Christchurch, New Zealand, with a small corn crop, growing here. Enjoy the vids. Does make me miss Minnesota sometimes. Thanks for educating me on so much this past year on farming.

Like the way you relate to, and include the family, especially Ila. She will have fond memories of her happy childhood later in her life; what it's all about guess. God bless you and yours and be safe.

Congrats on the draper purchase! Those things are truly awesome compared to the auger technology. By the way, did you have a header compatibility conversation with your dealer? At a minimum you will need new software, unless the previous owner of the 9870 had it correctly configured to run with at least a 600FD. On the pricer end of the scale, new lift cylinders (larger diameter) and reinforcing parts may be required for the feeder house and structure, depending on the combine serial number... If the dealer cannot help you, I may be able to provide some direction - just let me know.
