Read Falconry and Hawking, P. Glasier, about five years ago, good read. The breeding section was more than any novice is going to attempt. The depictions of Peregrine hunting make me want to witness such an event.

Most definitely, some parts of Phillip's book will be slightly more advanced than others or but necessarily applicable, but it's certainly a great place to reference from. Thank you very much for your thoughts and for watching! Have a wonderful day! :) -Leah

Good evening Cheerdiver; Thanks so much for stopping by the channel today; I agree, Glasier's book is a good grounding (by way of an introduction) to the Art. Stay tuned - 'Scirocco' and 'Halo" will be free-flying soon, and you'll get a taste of what long-wings look like when they're in "fighting trim"! Best, Jo

Btw, let's not forget the extraordinary opus on Modern Falconry, "North American Falconry and Hunting Hawks, by the late Frank Beebe and Hal Webster, who recently just passed. NAFA just did a commemorative issue to honor Hal's contribution to modern Falconry. Just food for thought. Keep up the good work Joanne!👍 Your a lady and a scholar!📚 Happy Hawking!

Good afternoon Angelo; Thank you for the great suggestion - I'll definitely look into obtaining a copy of this! I had the privilege of meeting Frank Beebe in 2004 - he was 93 years old, and *still* stewarding three Feathered companions! He had a little Harris, a young, wild-trapped Gos, and a big female Gyrfalcon named 'Blue' whom he flew for me during my visit. A funny story here... This was right at the beginning of my journey into Falconry, and in my ignorance I asked Frank what the name of his little Gos was. His reply was, "Well, sometimes I call him sonofabitch, other times a**hole..." I was taken aback at this, and it must've been obvious to Frank because he went on; "Jo, you have to understand, if you're going to lose *any* bird at the beginning, it'll be a Gos. They're a handful - hard to win over, strong-willed. If you can get through your first year without them taking off on you, you'll have a great hunting bird there. So when it comes to working with a Gos, I never name them before I've had a successful hunt, and they've stuck with me for a year." Naturally, this was a relief to hear - I'd _really_ been back on my heels when he shared the 'colourful' names he'd offered in answer to my original question. He passed away a couple of years later...I was saddened to learn of it, the more-so because I'd always hoped to do an interview with him for an article I'd been wanting to write. I'm just so grateful I got to meet him in the first place. :0) You're a sweetheart - thank you for the lovely compliment... Have a great day, Jo

I'm glad you touched on Falconry and Hawking! That's the book I'm primarily drawing on from for my research as I'm writing it. I know drawing from one book isn't the best for research, but have literally almost 300 individual sections to get through.... Plus, I'm using your channel and a few other videos I've found in order to help supplement and expand my knowledge. Falconry isn't a _huge_ focus in my story either. I just need _enough_ information to make it feel pretty authentic. And I think I might check out Bird of Jove to hopefully be able to write the bonding between my character and her falcon a bit more accurately. It's different because it can rationalise on its own, but even so, it's a gyr and extremely proud while she's very timid and scared right at first. So thanks for the vid! Really helpful as usual. (And don't worry, I have all of the videos I'm going to use in my source list, so full credit is given for the knowledge.)

Along with Bird of Jove, H is for Hawk by Helen McDonald is another wonderful book that captures the relationship between human and companion really well in my opinion. Best writing wishes, Kiki! Good afternoon Kristyn; Thank you so much for the lovely compliments and support; wonderful people like yourself were the inspiration for Leah and I taking on the adventure of sharing "Team Feathers", and what I've thus _far_ learned in my travels. In point of fact, Leah was the one to convince me there were a _lot_ of people who wanted to understand what achieving "relationship" with a bird-of-prey truly meant, and I'm grateful to her for giving me the mighty nudge I needed to start down this path with all of our wonderful subscribers. Season 2 starts next week with a "Secret Life of..." episode, and from there, things are only going to get more exciting! Stay-tuned, (and please let your friends know about us!). Best, Jo :0)

@@TheFalconLady The Falcon Lady I'm really looking forward to season 2! Big thank you to Leah, then! Because I'm one of those people that really wanted to see a different side of/a different approach to falconry and the husbandry of these amazing creatures. I'm so grateful to get to see your approach. So, a big thank you to you too! I would consider myself to be extremely lucky to have someone like you as my sponsor one day. You are a great inspiration to me, and I'm sure many other people. Thank you!!!

@@TheFalconLady lol ok 5 may be a bit much for you but i could watch this 24/7 .. i love everything about it the whole education point, getting to watch these amazing bird fly, and how they interact with people. i just fell in love with falconry from the second i saw it and it has consumed every spare second of my day from the time i have found it. i have watched all kinda videos and some of these people just seem to do it for attention or to control a wild animal. that's why i love your videos so much it's from the heart and i can just tell with how you two interact with the birds and how willing you are to share as much information as you possibly can. you two are the real deal and i hope you go a long way because that love that you two have for this has made me fall in love with it also and i thank you for that.

Great vid mo and jo.my first falconry book I read is called falconry for you by Humphrey evans. He is an old world falconer from the uk.its a great informative and knowledgeable book.one of my problems with the book is that although he talks about short wings and long wings in falconry,he is so biased toward long wings that he repeatedly puts down the short winged raptors as mostly useless as falconry birds.have you read it? If so what's your opinion.in the future do you plan on doing more videos on training birds of prey for falconry.thanks

Good afternoon Mike; "Falconry for You" is a classic - still lots of relevant instruction for a newcomer to the Art in those pages, for sure. I agree there's little to be gained by promoting such biases; both long and short-wings have their strengths...its all about what you're working toward developing with a bird-of-prey, that is, what _type_ of relationship you're seeking to deepen. We'll be continuing with the series next weekend, so please let your friends & family know about us, and be sure to tune-in! Best, Jo
