Jo would love to hear your thoughts, insights, "ah-ha's" and feedback (apologies for the sound - first time filming with her old iPhone) as we delve into the pages of this nearly 800-year-old text!
By the way, there's some new links below to some insightful articles we hope you'll enjoy, so please take a look-see!

Your guide is Journeyman Falconer Joanne Bentley, a practitioner with over 15 years experience in the handling and schooling of birds-of-prey, and her support-team of assistants including Joseph Norris, Andrew & Megan Lemon, Chris Wright, and Bruce Lane.
With light-hearted humour and a gentle, informational approach, Jo will guide you in understanding the techniques of “winning” one’s Feathered-companion - first in earning their willingness to work with us, then - in our case - to work for the eye of the camera.
Jo's desire is to inspire established and new participants, wildlife enthusiasts, birders, and the wider public. This passionate Journeyman Falconer seeks to inform and introduce humanity to the intangible “living human-heritage” (UNESCO 2010) to which every one of us may lay claim through the Art of Falconry.
Thank you for watching!

@@TheFalconLady How much he got dead right - our feathered ones stay with us because we can make their lives easier. This was a fellow who keenly observed the society of hawks. But we cannot strictly bend them to our will - it's a negotiation. Mostly discovering what *they* want and adjusting our expectations to their needs. And yes, Keira did ask for squirrel. ;)

Beautifull, it seems like it is really a must have book to aid me along my mentors' advice and the falconry course i'm in. It is a marathon and not a sprint. :-) Reading your own bird comes with time I guess. One of the qualities a great falconer should have is patience, endurance en percistance all bundled in one, the original latin text would probably have a word for that. :-)

Good evening Sylvester; Lovely to receive the feedback and thoughts, and couldn't agree with you more. :0) Will be posting some videos this week as I'm mostly recovered from my injuries - looking forward to continuing the conversation. Best, Jo

Good evening, Joanne. I have never read the whole work by Frederick II. Although some parts do. Translation is not for sale here. Falconry was revived in the 1970s. Almost all falconers in Central Europe started as if from the beginning. Due to the lack of falcons, they mainly used goshawks. Only later were falcons and golden eagles used. Despite this historical development, they developed procedures for training falconry predators, almost identical to the descriptions in the book by Frederick II. That's why I think that plinth making is about an intuitive feeling for working with falconry predators. Many procedures are indescribable, but need to be seen and tested. My mentor at the age of 70, when he started, trained 50 wild goshawks a year at different ages and practiced it for more than 20 years and even hunted goshawks with them. And so did the falconers from the time of Frederick II. At present, falconers no longer do this and therefore do not have enough experience. This year it will probably not be (pandemic), but in the Czech Republic, at the castle in Opoča, hunting with falconry predators is one of the largest in Europe in the autumn. It can be seen that predators from different countries, from different training pathways, have different hunting success rates. And the success of hunting is an assessment of the falconer's entire effort in training his falconer predator. Have a nice day.

There is one hawk get hand feeder from a glove to me being new is this Right. For Birds going Back we feed them on pans, is this right? Also the the ones that will be turn Free could we build Nest for the Birds? I having a hard time understanding the way Falconers get birds to Step up but it is different for there birds that are Educational Birds. Wish I had you cell number. I work with som cool birds. Take Care. Greg of Ohio

Good evening ornithology dude; Thanks so much for checking in with me - I had an accident in late June...broke two ribs, and had a "lovely" concussion to boot. I'm pretty close to being fully back to my usual tricks, and I'm uploading my newest video as I write this. Its a *huge* announcement, and I'm so looking forward to hearing everyone's reaction - please put September 3rd, 12-noon (Pacific Time) on your calendar, I *definitely* want you to catch this episode!
