I understand that the people involved in making the movie didn't receive fair wages, which is an important issue that needs to be addressed. However, I don’t think "Moana 2" is a bad movie at all. While the songs aren't quite as strong as those in the first film, it's worth noting that Lin-Manuel Miranda was not involved in this sequel. They should have waited for him to be available to work on it. But, of course, Disney is always looking to capitalize on successful titles, and since "Moana" was a big hit, they rushed this sequel out. That said, I still won't say this movie is bad or horrible. My daughter and I enjoyed it, even if the songs aren't as memorable as the first one's. There are standout performances from Dwayne Johnson and the lead actress, who voiced Moana. I do think some elements, particularly the side characters and the villain, could have been developed further, but overall, it's still a good movie. It’s enjoyable to watch with family and friends, especially kids. So, no, this movie is not horrible. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I found it to be a good film worth seeing, and I would definitely watch it again.

I saw so many people either celebrating or showing ambivalence when Blue Sky got shuttered because "Their movies sucked anyway", that shit made me so mad. It was one of very few big name animation film studios in the US and the only one on the east coast. Also the movies weren't always great but some of them were genuinely well done stories and even if they weren't, they were crafted with care technically. They pioneered new animation techniques of Peanuts, Buck in Ice Age was animated superbly. In an age when more and more of this industry is getting devalued or outsourced, losing an animation studio that gave staff jobs to hundreds of artists in the US and made decent to solid work fucking sucked

If Disney thinks they have a big holiday film to wrap up 2024, wait until Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog 3 film comes out. The potential box office it could get will make Moana 2 look pathetic. Moana 2 really should've went direct-to-streaming cause it does NOT feel out of place compare to all of the Disney Reniassance & Post-Reniassance Era direct-to-DVD sequels. Who the heck was the test audiences for Moana 2, if any? If they were kids and families, parents can literally watch crap with their kids just so that they don't have to deal with these gremlins. True, there is some real gems with some sequels, but Disney's approach being _making films to steal your wallet_ should really be seen a flaw in the film industry at the moment. And I can only blame it on two of the CEOs of Disney that we had in recent times and they both start with Bob; Bob Iger and Bob Chapek. Iger did do a lot of good things for Disney such as bringing out the creation of their streaming platform and expanding out Disney's IPs for Disney's themepark attractions, but he and Chapek also made some pretty stupid decisions with the whole idea of live action remakes/remasters and business decisions on series and IPs all just to make some quick bucks to keep innovating the themeparks to get them up to date and into the future, and hey, it worked. It isn't just Disney and Pixar that is dealing with a budget mess, Marvel and Star Wars also went crazy to the point that if Flopville was a place in the Filmworld, it would definitely be a big city like Los Santos in GTA V. I can't really blame Disney, Dreamworks has been in sort of a mess of not knowing what to do with their long lasting IPs - but in recent years... we have started getting REALLY good films from them with The Wild Robot, all of the Trolls films and Orion and the Dark. And even their existing IPs had some great films like Kung Fu Panda 4 and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, even the new IP The Bad Guys got really good attention that it is getting a sequel and is being recognised as a main stay in their Dreamworks Cinematic Universe (or I would call it DWCU) which obviously included Shrek, Madagascar and even How To Train Your Dragon. True, we did get some regrettable flops like Teenage Kraken and um... Megamind 2, but I am blaming that on them trying to market that universe to get viewers aka those little gremlins, to watch THEIR streaming site. If there is a film IP that Dreamworks did in the past that REALLY deserves a sequel, it is the 2012 film *Rise of the Guardians* - you know the one where boy got killed in a frozen lake and got reborn as Jack Frost as one of the Guardians who has to defeat The Bogeyman (aka Pitch Black) from killing the other Guardians like the Easter Bunny, Sandman and even the Tooth Fairy. Man, if that film was released in the 2020s, it would DEFINITELY be a new classic because Jack Frost had amnesia and has the whole identity theme going on, which might've not been relatable to Gen Zs in the year the film actually released, but it NOW is relatable for Gen Zs in this decade. I did do a post about it on X explaining the reasons why the film flopped due to over-marketing despite the concerns of test audiences. Looking back on it now from the fans, Rise of the Guardians has become not only an underrated film but MANY have seen it as a *cult classic* that they watch it every Holiday Season. If you don't believe me, check Smarty Pants channel. He's been BEGGING for a sequel of sorts for that film, and same with me too, mainly cause I like the world that they got and I like how that Easter Bunny looks like a freaking offspring of a kangaroo f***ing a rabbit. The creator and the author of Rise of the Guardians expressed hope for a sequel or two and for some reason they haven't made an agreemenet with Dreamworks since 2013. @Dreamworks , give this franchise a CHANCE. If you don't believe me, this film is 12 Years old NOW!? Give it a Rerun at cinemas like you did to Shrek 2. THIS IS THE Holiday Title I would watch over what Moana 2 got from Disney.

This may surprise some, but Walt Disney himself was notoriously anti-sequel. He seldom made them. When his 1933 animated adaptation of The Three Little Pigs made a lot of money and won an Oscar, he was asked by distributors and theaters to make more cartoons with the characters. He only did them because his brother and business partner Roy O. Disney said they needed the money. The three cartoons starring the characters were nowhere near as successful as the original. From thereon in, Walt Disney would frequently say throughout the years, "You can't top pigs with pigs."

As a Canadian, I’m glad that the work on Moana 2 was done by Canadian Animators/Artists. But, it’s for sure a double edged sword, because it meant that Disney was able to pay them less and that absolutely isn’t right. So they took the Moana series that was supposed to be on Disney plus, and basically did the reverse of what they've been doing with their MCU shows (which is basically turning movies into 6 episode TV shows). So the reason it basically feels off to people is because it is edited more like a movie that was made for TV rather than for the theater.

Plus, you gotta remember that studios essentially make their money by leasing the film prints to the theater companies. So, for at least the first week, they make their money no matter how well the film does. The box office returns technically are more about how much theaters are making, which they use to decide how much longer they’re going to keep the movie on screens. If Disney just cared about getting paid for the holiday weekend then they wouldn’t even care how well it did, just how well theaters thought it would do. That’s probably why they cut it down to 90 minutes too, so theaters can run it more times a day, since a ticket is the same price no matter how long the movie is. None of this is good.

I'm gonna keep saying it: Tangled the series should have been the BLUEPRINT for movie related series going forward. They had the chance for a new age of series people actually like like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Considering how lukewarm the reaction to Moana 2 I wonder if it actually going to ruin the image of the brand, it and the remake only got made due to Iger and The Rock being desperate to a hit.
