I went to see jt on Friday. Honestly, I was very hesitant about Wicked until the reviews came out and had no intention to see it until I heard the reviews. It was a great movie. As someone who also likes the Broadway show, I’m curious to see what they will do with the second act which has always been a bit rough and rushed. It was a great movie worth seeing in a theater.

“Movie theaters are dead and will never recover, people don’t want to go anymore” Thanksgiving 2024: “Hold my beer and my turkey”😎
@rsrocha198421 сағат бұрын
Is always like that. It is just like "Super Hero movies are dead". Everytime there is two or three flops in the genre in a roll they say that. For the last 25 years ever since X-men begin the new generation of super hero movies. No one notice that those flops happen to be horrible movies and that maybe people are not tired of super hero movies, but of bad super heroes movies. The same with movies. People went into crisis mode because Furiosa and Fall Guy flop. Well, maybe dont do a Mad Max movie without Max and maybe there is a reason why 90s actions movies belong to the 90s and dont try to do one with a huge budget today.
@OrionInSpace20 сағат бұрын
@ exactly there are so many variables to why movies don’t do well today versus when you see movies that do well make profit for the reasons that they did. I’m not gonna lie when I say that the holiday absolutely played a big role and why we just had a massive box office draw but that doesn’t mean the movies weren’t attainable by mass audiences for them to be excited to go see.

@rsrocha198418 сағат бұрын
@@wachinimagaming4898 is so stupid some times. Like, Indiana Jones 5 didnt flop because people dont want to go to the movies. It flops because no one wants to see their hero as a sad old man that lost everything they care in life. Nothing to do with Phoebe Waller-Bridge btw. If they had made a fun adventure where we first meet Indie as a happy man with grand kids that decided to help the daughter of an old friend I think the movie would had gather a lot more good will from fans. But no, Hollywood is obsess with the sad old man trope. Eventough the only legacy sequel that really succeed didnt do it. Maverick was not a sad old man, his life was not perfect, but it was good. He was still in the navy, flying experimental jets and none his friendship with Iceman going strong. If the geniouses behind Indie had made Top Gun Maverick, he would be a drunk that was kick out of the navy. Anyway, I digress, movies fail for a reason and it is not that people dont want to go to the movies anymore.

After a few less-than-pleasant theater experiences at the beginning of the year, I drastically cut back on the number of movies I wanted to see in theaters, really only seeing a few of the "tent poles" to avoid spoilers. But Wicked definitely got me remembering how much fun a GOOD experience can be and I decided to take my nephew to see Moana while I was visiting for Thanksgiving. The movie was eh, but I think we've got a new tradition.

We didn’t have as much family as normal this year down for Thanksgiving so we went out for dinner and then did a movie on Thanksgiving for the first time as a family. The Matrix reloaded , Pirares of the Carribean Dead mans Chest, Iron man 2 and Tranformers revenge of the fallen all did better than the first movie at the box office, despite not being as well reviewed as the first. So I think Moana 2 falls into this same category where the goodwill from the first movie and desiree to see the next installment is strong enough to overcome any concerns about a decline in quality. However if there is a 3rd and 4th Moana movie, and they are not as good either, that could be where we could see the box office start to fall (similar to what happended to the later matrix, transformers moviers for example).

@Amoraszune they marveled us with a post credit scene in moana 2. There will be a third one for sure.
@rmsgrey14 сағат бұрын
There's a general pattern for series, franchises, etc, where the box office for one instalment is, if anything, more correlated with the quality of the previous instalment than with its own - unless a movie is so good that everyone's talking about it, people who didn't like the previous one probably won't bother - they'll check it out sooner on streaming, but won't make an effort to catch it in cinemas - but unless it's getting terrible reviews, someone who liked the last one will probably still go to see the new one.

Here in Europe, I can tell you that the hype here for Wicked is immense, but it still has not released in most of the EU. There's also a big issue here, a lot of countries are releasing a fully dubbed version, songs and all, and that's just a huge turn off for everyone... At least here in Italy, where the dubbed songs are awful and OV screenings aren't as common as the rest of Europe

European here too and I wouldn't call it "immense"... For example, my social circle of 20-30 year-olds knows about it but none of us is really familiar with the Wizard of Oz or the original musical (which instead are both American staples) so we're more like "oh cool, we could watch it" rather than "omg so hyped".
