The interesting thing about series like this is the budget allocation. They invest a good chunk of it into a few scenes that look REAL nice, and can be remembered with ease. And then keep everything else rather basic. The overall impression is way better then series that average their budget out.

@@TEG13 100% true. But recent series like One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 cranked it up to 11. 90%+ of the animation is done in a monotone, borderline shitty style (pretty cheap to make). With a focus on staying consistent. It doesn't fluctuate from bad to slightly bad to okey-ish... it's always the same "quality". And the remaining budget, aka most of the money, went into the few battle scenes. The animators basically took their sweet time to produce the very best action scenes they could. And this "luxury" was practically unheard of in productions with low to average budgets like theirs. Well, the gamble paid off. Turns out viewers liked the low budget gag anime production that was spiced up with a few top-quality action scenes.

Pretty sure ONE DID make the Mob Psycho Manga (with help). The One Punch Man webcomic was the one that he made online that got turned into a Manga by Murtata.

yeah, OPM was already licensed for a manga remake but it hadn't been officially announced yet, but people had heard that people were getting interested in it and other magazine called him up looking to license it, and he pulled the idea for Mob Psycho out of his ass to pitch to them, and then quickly threw together a basic outline and story over the next week or so. Using some ideas he'd had for OPM but couldn't think of a good way to integrate them into the story at that point, and decided to use them for Mob Psycho instead. As well as focus on a different kind of idea. at their core ONE's 3 main works each focus on a specific stage of life and difficulties people experience there. Mob is about a child trying to find themselves and decide who they are as they grow up and become an adult. OPM is about a young adult who lost his purpose in life when his childish dreams didn't turn out the way he hoped and struggles to find meaning and satisfaction. Makai no Ossan (Old Man of the Underworld), is about an Old Man worrying about his past actions and the future he's building for his children.

I love both, but I have to wonder if people feel that way about dub Reigen more quickly because they're not Japanese speaker, and maybe don't pick up on those endearing traits as much because it's such a different language? Either way I think both are wonderful.

9:50 I love how he gets it completely wrong because this series teaches you that "No, it really does matter, kids". If you want to be a well rounded adult person, you have to try to be good at everything you do, not just stick to a single thing. If you don't, you end up being a Michael Jackson or some dumbass sports man that gets taken advantage of. You didn't grow up, you just escaped to your "thing". Really love that about this series.
