Hell, just cut holes in-between the joist at the belly, stick your hose over the I-beam and blow that damn thing full. This is some of the damndest work I've ever seen.
@Ricochet90911 жыл бұрын
Certainly drilling so many large holes in the rim joist weakens that joists ability to support the walls of the home. Not the method I'm using to insulate the belly of my home.

Scott Sanders I don't know exactly, but wont the wood plugs make up for the amount of material they took out? Are the wood plugs the same depth of the holes they drilled?
@dalejohnson2078 жыл бұрын
First thing I thought!!!
@dienekes43644 жыл бұрын
@@kobelcofan It would if they glued the plugs in since glue is stronger than wood. However, it didn't look like they did that. So the plugs don't give it any strength at all. As a matter of fact, if the plugs are tight, it might even make it worse because they would add tension to the surrounding wood. This issue isn't the compression of the wood, the concern is the wood splitting.

Proper way would be to patch the underneath with belly paper and metal shoots and staples , Cut in holes every 15 inches and blow in blown fiberglass from a hopper ...Have had trailers you could never imagine and have dropped my blower door number to a "B" ring.. Cutting holes in the outside rim joist ruins the integrity of the house and wont guarantee proper and adequate insulation...

Doesn't really seem like a "DIY" sort of method. But good information. "Luckily", the floors in the trailer I just bought have been damaged, so, since I have to tear them up anyway, I'll be doing most of my insulation from the top instead of the bottom.

You guy's drilled them hole's so big you have compromise the integrity of the rim-joints Holes in bearing wall studs (exterior and interior walls that bear the weight of the roof and/or other stories above) may not exceed 40 percent of the width of the stud.

My husband is an HVAC engineer. He does not like the belly bag because he says moisture cannot pass through it. Are the bellybags pourous so air can pass through?
@thefix25733 жыл бұрын
It serves as a Vapor barrier, a good idea, the convected heat your home produces lifts moisture out of the soil, which then passes through insulation and wood in your floor. This is bad (mold). Modern code requires a stick built home have this installed on all heater walls/floor. Plus you should have a 6 mil plastic over the dirt/sand of your crawl space, which is code for stick built homes as well as manufactured home sets, new ones any ways. You don't want moisture to pass through your structure. Keep it from vapping up into the crawl and what does get in keep it from going upwards into the structure, then allow it to escape easily, with proper foundation/skirting vents.

I would be very careful about over insulation. Sound funny I supposed but if your water lines get covered on the wrong side, and with blow in insulation you never know.... but if water lines are insulated away from the heat side. You will have a freeze up in cold weather

why would you spend all that time and money insulating a rusted out old trailer. Not only did they not do a good job insulating it but they also weakened what little structural integrity this trailer might have had.
@dynamicdopamine4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on them drilling the holes was ridiculous. Without a doubt! But people remodel mobile homes all the time. If done right, it's actually a good profitable business I guess you could say. They make great homes if you know what you're doing when it comes down to remodeling them. I've got a couple of videos on my channel you should check it out and see what I'm dealing with right now. But once I'm done, it will probably blow a lot of people's minds! We lost everything to a house fire with no insurance and turned around and bought this mobile home I'm working on for $300. The house had a tremendous amount of water damage, it's been about a year project because I only get to work on it one day a week since I made truck driver and I never get time off of work. We stay with my in-laws and it sucks not having a home of your own. But once I'm done with it, it will definitely be worth it in the end.

More than likely an energy assistance program for low income people. They do it for free in my area, new windows insulation and help with furnaces. One non profit here will give you a $400.00 credit on your elec bill or $400.00 cash if you have a woodstove, for wood.
@natalielogan72092 жыл бұрын
Weatherization program is threw biggest waste of taxpayer money! They do don't do windows they don't insulate the walls in mobile homes just the underbelly. Our pipes recently froze we got them unfroze and now we don't have pressure in two places. How do you get to the pipes when there's f****** blown insulation up there you can't not without losing insulation. I would not recommend doing this program.
