Warning , I started to watch this channel about 5 years . Why you ask ,cuz I was captivated by the restoration. I have never owned a boat or wanted one. Long story short I bought a boat for a cheap price a 21 foot cuddy Worked all summer fixing and replacing parts ,shift cables lowered and upper , switched cable steering to hydraulic , all the electrical , Upholstery redone . Finely got it ready for water testing Only problem is its time to winterize the boat . So my warning is , keep watching and you will be a owner or a boat like it or not .

I don't have any experience with diesel engines in boats but plenty when it comes to everything else. I had a friend who had issues of sucking air due to restriction with pickup pipe in tank. Turned out a shady shop mechanic has shredded up a few shop towels and dropped them in fuel tank. At high RPMs the fuel filter would build up air even when no real leaks were found in fuel lines. I connected a vaccuum guage on inlet side of fuel pump trying to diagnose the issue. That is when I noticed the vacuum on suction side of pump. After removing all shop rags and flushing tank there were no longer and issues or air getting in system. Best of luck in your adventures.

If the return fuel is falling onto the fuel in the tank it can aerate the fuel and if that aerated fuel is near the take off to the engine that can get air into the system, if that is the issue you often find the problem is worse when the fuel level is lower as higher fuel levels can enable de-aeration, that layout also leads to hot return fuel causing undesirable heating of the fuel that goes to the engine.

I recommend that you find a good filter supplier with a bleed and pump in top housing, to upgrade all your customers vessels when servicing ,- a cheep fix/prevention/guarantee , "quality workmanship" . Then a quick once a year filters and oil change routine to all your customers will keep them running , and they will be all "happy captains".

The air in the fuel can be that fuel line is not lying flat or curved down then back up. This is a problem with air in the water on radiators as the air stays in the top of the curve causing a airlock till the pressure overcomes the airlock.
