Simple Mobile Miter Saw Station with Dust Collection and Storage
I recently upgraded my miter saw and wanted to build a compact mobile stand for its new home. It needed to be heavy duty with lockable casters so I could move it around the workshop and outside for large projects.
So I designed this simple miter saw station that fits my needs. I hope you can get some inspiration from it too.

Just came across this video and while it is three years old, I wanted to give some advice to others who might see this while planning for their own miter saw station. If you put the two side leafs upside down on a flat work bench or floor, and then position then prop the main stand upside down on two wood pieces the exact height of the saw base, you don't have to fight gravity with clamps and extra wood when aligning and attaching the hinges.

As a new woodworker this project looks easy enough for me to tackle. I started building a workbench yesterday and learned how to use my pocket hole jig. Cutting 8foot 2x4’s was a little hard on the miter saw so I definitely need that stand. I think this will be my next project. Thanks!

You have given this beginner some really helpful ideas. As I build mine I will build the back board and two sides higher so as to have a better chance of collecting (or at least containing) more dust. Also, mounting the dust port on the back board just across from the exhaust port will collect (I believe) more dust than mounting it on the bottom. Staining the boards made the project very attractive. Great job!

Love the table, but I don't like the loose 2x4's for the wing supports. I would probably have put a support structure on on hinges that swing out to support the wings, and then fold back in. Just my 2 cents, but love it otherwise.

I have decided to start a woodworking business from my home and just purchased my first mitre saw. I've been researching stands all day and decided to check YT to see what was out there and crossed your video. LOVE this idea. I don't have a 'shop' and am using my garage for now. So having a place to store the saw on this stand is perfect for what I need. I will be doing this project next for sure!

Just started building this myself. Miter stands are anywhere from 200-300+ dollars and do the most basic thing. Hold the saw. This idea costs maybe 50 or 60 dollars for everything and gives you storage space and movement. Think I'm really going to love it. Video is super clear and easy to follow. Got a new subscriber. Thank you

I just bought my first miter saw and thinking of very nearly the same thing although had not thought of the wings. I did some experiments and have decided to make a rear thin sheet wall (1/4" plywood maybe) that slides up for greater sawdust retention, and go with a rectangle opening bin under the rear of the saw, from about half way under the miter table and up to the sheet wall, then incorporate a small vacuum in the table to allow a local hose for clean up. But seeing yours gives me even more ideas. Thanks.

Great idea. Going to add a couple of things to it. Making it to where I can interchange the miter saw with my sander, grinding wheel, and a vise. Will store all under the table. Additionally, I am making a stop sled that attaches to the wings for repeated cuts of the same measurement. Adding a plywood box cover for storage when not in use. This is the best idea I have seen to this point for a portable miter saw table.

Since you made a point of inviting comments, I'd have given the caster pattern a broader stance laterally and made the wings as long as possible. That said, I like your project for its direct approach and quick build. I have mixed emotions about elaborate shop furniture projects. The negative aspect is that it is like making yourself the most elaborate Christmas present of all. That's a thumbs up for you.

Old Newbie - Wing Support I really like the simple approach. You should consider adding a hole at the top and center of each 2"X4" resting wing box (close to hinge) and a protruding dowel to the end of each wing support. When not in use can let each support hang down flush against the side of each resting wing, either in the back (out of the way) or in the front using the dowel and a loose fitting hole.

Great build, as I am looking to build a portable station for my "garage" shop as well. I have seen wings for the sidetables used out of plywood, but I guess I do like the portability of the 2x4 support piece. Nonetheless. great build and thanks for keeping it simple for us beginners.

I am planning to use this design for myself, but instead, will leave out the bottom shelf for sliding in the shop vac, with space in the back. This means the front and rear 2x4 will not be there, just running a flat 2x3 on the bottom sides.

Man that's a great idea! I've been debating building a miter station into my workbench, but I'm just working in my normal 2 car garage, where cars are also parked when I'm not working. I don't think I could sacrifice that space! A folding and mobile miter station though may just do the trick! I'm thinking some kind of a slot to stick those support brackets on the back, because I know my knobby knees would smack that board every time I walked by!

Like the cabinet/cart. Would use 2×4 for legs and 1x3 for the remainders. Think I would use a piano hinge for the drop leaves. Would use a butterfly wing to support the extensions and attach it to the back leg to allow mounted storage. I only use my miter saw outside due to small workshop and DUST. Portable wheel cart beats carrying the saw to an outside location. Thanks for the detailed information and sharing!

Thumbs up, Guy, but I'd like to encourage everyone who feasibly can to buy their 2xs ahead of time, stand them separated and on end to quickly air dry them, then joint and saw the stock square. Shop projects will have a longer, happier lifespan that way. I live in Wyoming and more than 40 years ago asked a lumberman what the grade stamp "semi-dry" meant on his 2x4s. He said it meant they were dried on the semi on the way down from Montana.

If you pause on 6:08 you can see there is about 5 inches of space. I would extend the wings to the length of the stand frame to give it a clean profile looks when stowed. Thinking this might be my weekend project. Nice job!
@brusemiller9211
@brusemiller9211 4 жыл бұрын
You're onto something. Extending those wings all the way to the floor would do 2 important things: streamline the look, and make it more solid. The "legs" or supports for the wings could go to the floor as well. That would address SparkyGT's comment above. I like the added mobility of the wheels, but I'd think it would not be that often that you'd move it, and you could still do that with the wings raised. Just a thought. Great space-saving table idea for a station.

Great video of your new miter station. An idea you can think about,try adding a hinge on the supports for the wings. I'm not talking about adding them to the ends of the support but in the middle of the support. That way they don't some how disappearing by mistakingly be thought to be a peace of scrap. It's just a thought, but the way you have it now is a really good idea. It wouldn't hurt to mark on them," NOT SCRAP". Keep the great videos coming. Thanks for sharing and God bless

Love the table! I'm going to build one this weekend, I will make 2 changes to this. 1) I will cut a 2x2 in a 45 degree angle and place it on the back wall, that way it's easier to clean off all the dust. 2) I will bring in the legs equal to the width of the plywood that way I can do a vertical foldable bracket on a hinge that folds our at 45 degrees to hold the wings up. Just my 2 cents. But love the table, so practical!

This is a great solution to the quandry I've been in about how to get hinged wings to be level with the saw table when raised. I think this will solve the problem. As far as the dust, it really is about impossible to get it all. But I was able to reduce the dangerous airborne particles quite a bit by mounting a desk fan upside down on the ceiling to blow over my right shoulder and toward the dust cone (like you installed here). I took a video of using the saw with and without the fan, and there was a lot less airborne dust escaping the draft.

I think Sparky’s comment bears repeating. Sooner or later you’ll lean on one of those wings or try to cut a long board. The whole thing will dangerously tip over. You could put heavy weights on the bottom shelf or design a leg that supports the wing down to the floor. I also saw a comment about making the wings longer and narrower. I’ll work on that because I want to build this table. Nicely done thanks!

I love your saw table. I made something similar for my miter saw, band saw and drill press. I store my tools in the shed, but I have to roll them outside and set up on the patio under the sky to use them. The following is probably more helpful to readers on a budget or in a similar work conditions. Because I have obstacles bigger than cabinet wheels can handle, I replaced my wheels with 3/4 inch runners that go from front to back on either edge. To set up shop, I just slip my hand truck blade under the cabinet and roll it to where I plan to use it. When I set it down, it's flat and stable and I don't have to lock wheels. It also saves me about $30 per cabinet. I also have a sliding miter but I haven't added the wings yet, partially because I'm trying to figure out how to cover the full width that the saw can cut. As for changes to the wing supports for the table in the video, I would consider making brackets or clamps on back of the cabinet to stick the supports in vertical. They would be out of the way and free up the shelf and not protrude anywhere.

Loved this video Been pondering how to build a stand for my mitre saw. The wings here are a terrific option for a small space like mine. Will be thinking more about the wing supports and checking out other comments on that. thank you.

love it. super simple and super useful. I need a rolling table for my miter. I think I might build one just like yours.

This looks like it could be used as a kitchen island as well. With the cut out for the dust collector used as a scraps/ tradh drop zone. The folding wings/ arms being higher up than the main top, may be more beneficial than some may think at first. The wall behind the dust cut out would also function as a back splash. I have a set of casters just waiting to have their purpose with this in my kitchen.

With some wood raw, and some stained, it makes the piece visually appealing. I also believe that keeping with 2x4's makes the unit seem like it could stand up to our cast iron cookery collection. Thank you for your video, and the inspiration it has given me.

Thank you for the support and the great ideas. That does sound like it could be very useful if done correctly. If you build it, please let me know, I would love to see it.

I like it. I have almost that same wheeled miter saw table you built so I may add those wings.

I really love the colour of the tops so great job. I like too the folding wings although for the supports I would prefer to use some metal brackets support of some sort.

Nice Video and Setup. How about adding some Velcro to the wing support beam and the back of the two legs on the stand? (Or drill a some hole in each beam and hang them in the same location.) You could store the support beams there when not in use. That would free of some shelf space as well. I’m 6’2 and I’m sure that my legs would find a way to hit those beams sticking out like that.

I like the idea, I'd probably go a different route to hold the sides out, but I do like the design
