This isn't going to get noticed, but what a lot of people don't understand about why Shinn forgives Stella is literally talked about in the episode before this while in jail. To reiterate though, if it weren't for war, she wouldn't be killing anyone. She's a soldier and manipulated into killing for the sake of survival. When thinking about how many people she killed, please remember she didn't do it all by herself. Who gave her the Destroy Gundam? Who told her she had to kill so she and everyone she cares about doesn't die? Who had the Destroy Gundam made? Who experimented on her and turned her into a killing machine? When you actually dive into it, everything is out of her control. She's mentally unstable AND physically unstable. She couldn't survive without her pod. Point is though, Shinn understands that she didn't chose this life and that's all the reason he needs to forgive her. As for Shinn, he simply can't think straight because he couldn't protect Stella. By not being able to protect Stella, he's reminded of the time he lost his family because he was powerless. He HAS to beat Freedom; for his own sake, and not for anyone else. If he doesn't get over Freedom, it'll prove his powerlessness. No matter whether it's for revenge or what, he really needed an excuse to beat Freedom so he could validate himself; that he can become powerful enough to protect the things he wants to protect. That's his whole reason for being a soldier. That's why he's being so narrow-minded. People will criticize him for it, but that's how humans are. When they're sad and angry, they don't see everything; only focus on what affects them the most emotionally. To make fun of him for it means to think you're better than that. Even though I've overcome it myself, I could never criticize him because he's 16 and has to go through these experiences before he can learn their mistakes.

No one actually helped him cope with his trauma. They just made him use it as ammo to fight harder while disregarding his mental health until he went batshit insane during the Requiem Battle.

The thing about shin is that although we all know how immature and brash he is, he also disregards anything that he doesn't agree with, and with no one to correct him and actually mentor him. So the biggest problem starts from this episode is the fact that the situation with Stella is a consequence of his own actions. And with his ego being inflated he just comes across as a whiny brat. I'm not saying he's a bad character, it's just he was a bit too whiny early on and the fact is he didn't get better throughout the show and everyone just wished he did.

So, in the end Shinn was being blunt about every single of soldiers and civilians sent to the Shadow Realm in the hands of Stella. And then, post-her death, instead of either blaming the one who assigned her to pilot the Destroy or rather, questioning his gravity of stupidity, Shinn just blamed Kira who both wasn't aware of their romance story and had no choice but to stop the further catastrophe by killing her. And here I am, thought that Shinn does also care about the killed soldiers, comrades, and civilians. Love is such an intriguing thing, isn't it, Shinn?

And it's not like Shinn believed she was blameless but that she was also a victim and essentially without free will unlike him and other soldiers who voluntarily joined the military. Even kira is more than willing to cause extra deaths because cagalli is crying, plus archangel crew accepted neo who is the one who directly manipulated stella. Although neo probably didn't have much choice in allegiance, he was sane, which makes him much more responsible than stella for all the killing he and his subordinates, stella included, did.

Stella's death in my opinion was Shinn's own doing. If anyone's to blame for it, it's Shinn himself. You'd think that after learning about all the heinous crap the Earth Alliance and Phantom Pain did to recreate Coordinators, Shinn would think twice before blindly trusting Neo. But nope lol. Sure, she's screwed either way, but it's also all about choosing the lesser of two evils here - letting her die (be it peacefully or be incarcerated by ZAFT) or have her be turned into a weapon again. If you ask me, if Shinn truly wanted to take her somewhere away from war and killing, letting her die peacefully would probably be the better option as it would be better for her to die outside of a Mobile Suit cockpit than in it. Either way, that decision makes blaming Kira & the Freedom look like Shinn having a bratty temper tantrum instead of justifying his actions to me.

The moment Shin decided to five stella back to the Earth forces he practically murdered countless lives. This is the first time any of them seen a Destroy gundam, so they had no idea how to approach it. Freedom also had Chaos and Windam on its butt for most of the fight. After this battle, they handle them easier because they had more combat data and better understanding of what to do to bypass the barriers. Also Rising Freedom and Immortal Justice (which, despite being newer machines, are lower in power compared to the original Freedom and Justice due to not having a nuclear reactor) handled Destroy gundams fairly easily too.

The stella/shinn arc is the most contrived nonsense. Its a shame that it digs into the real meat and potatoes of the show, the mech combat. I mean seriously, shinn just stops fighting when he realizes whos inside of the destroy and then goes berserk. Mans truely a SIMP

이거 네오 로아노크가 세탁된것도 문제가 큰데.... 사람들 학살한건 스텔라지만 그 부대 대장이니까 민간인 몰살시키도록 방관한 책임에서 자유롭진 못함 시드 프리덤에서 과거회상하면서 신한테 죽빵 한대라도 처맞는 장면이라도 나왔어야 하는거 아닌가? 조금이라도 세탁하고싶다면 스텔라 전쟁터에 왜 보냈냐면서 멱살잡히고 뚜드려맞고 그러는 장면이라도 있었어야 했는데....

Just going to point out her that THIS was where Destiny dropped off. After they killed Stella it was all down hill from there. The writing shifted back to the Archangel Crew and the Minerva were made the villains. If Fukada had stuck to the original writing and not let his wife turn it into what it was we might have had a much better show.

@@Kirito843 From what Fukada revealed in the 2023 Interview, The Minerva Group was supposed to be the main cast while the Archangel Crew was supposed to fill a supporting role like Amuro and the White Base Crew did in Zeta. Rey was supposed to be a much more prominent character than he was and Stella Loussier was supposed to join the Minerva halfway through the story. Morosawa was battling cancer during the first half of GSD's production and came back in around Episode 28-29 of the show. (Hence the clip episode). According to Fukada she wanted it to shift to the Archangel Crew instead and made massive changes to the already established plot. This turned the Minerva Crew and Durandal into major villains and made them pulled Jesus Yamato level BS to get Athrun back to the Archangel. GSD makes so much sense when you realize that it's essentially Morosawa's Fanfiction.
