The beeps were iconic because it felt right to hear it. The fact that it was a creative decision for them to add that SFX to go with the opening song only amplifies how powerful this opening was that it cemented in many of people's nostalgia. The beeps into the title card and the song drawing up to a faster beat. That's a so cool.

I come to realize that the pilots of Heavyarms & Sandrock never gotten new Gundams. They were just upgraded slightly for later on in the series & for the movie Endless Waltz. They only gave it a fresh coat of paint & added custom to the name

I'm fairly certain all the Gundams for the Gundam Team aside from Wing Zero were upgrades over their predecessors, it's just that Deathscythe Hell and Altron were more significant upgrades than the others by aesthetic. It's probably why Glory of the Losers gave both the original and upgrades new equipment...
