A simple spray painted ibc toat will keep water cool and algae out of toat

But I think I'd dig a well and add a electic motor to fill the tank that I'd make with concrete. I will ensure that I dig a pipe system under ground with taps after some distance.

I'd tie a cheese cloth on top of the hole which allows air to go in... just to ensure no mosquitoes go in...

What do you do when it freezes?

We usually have about 3 months of hard freezes here in north Alabama and sheep don’t drink a lot during those months. I empty the tote and move sheep to paddocks with running water during those months.

Great set up! I used to strap a metal hog waterer(has side opening) on a utility cart and haul it to the new paddocks for my dexters to drink. One question I had as I looked at your set up is I was wondering if there is a way to elevate the tote a little higher. You gain .433 psi every foot higher you go. This might make the tub fill up a little faster but as you said it is not a big deal for it to trickle with sheep and goats. Once again, great job and thanks for the tip!

Love your videos. Can we please get a video about south eastern sheep and goat forage? What you’ve seeded in the past, what you’re grazing currently, etc. My sheep won’t eat Bermuda very well and won’t touch Bahia, but will eat the seed heads. At this point I think my best bet is planting fescue, and then overseed with crabgrass and lespedeza for summer. They actually went after the volunteer fescue pretty good this spring

Your video couldnt have popped up at no better time. I'm looking at doing the same cause I'm tired of transporting 5 gallon buckets for 90 head. I love what you got, but I'm curious. How long it take for your sheep to go through that amount, an outside of the shade tree how you deal with the algae? Thanks

Hope the video is helpful. It’s hard for me to give you an average of how long a tank of water lasts. So many factors: how many head, how hot, how much rain, how lush the grass is, etc. since I move it at least every week, I don’t usually fill it more than half way and it easily lasts a week for 60 head. As far as algae, I know they make chemical solutions you can put in the water. I’ve also heard you can add diluted bleach. You can also cover the tank with a light proof tarp or paint it to block sunlight. I just rinse it out good before refilling.

I think maybe try putting the tote under a tree on top of the hill and use the 50' hose to run down the hill to pressurize the water output. The only thing is that the water hose would heat up in the sun. Maybe trench it and bury the hose so it stays ground temp. Great video, though. I'm in north central Alabama and would love to see your setup sometime

Great job, I also have this setup some notes: 1️⃣27.75” equals 1 psi, we don’t plan on pressure but volume 2️⃣ used typical cam lock with 1.25” hose, allowing more flow.
