NO SMART HARNESS NEEDED - 2004 Audi A4 Aftermarket Radio Install (We Found Switched 12V )

In this video we work through the challenges associated with installing an aftermarket radio in an 2004 Audi A4. We don't often work on german vehicles so were taken by surprise when there was no switched 12v available. We now know must german cars will require a smart harness as the radio is told to turn on via CAN BUS but if you want to skip the smart harness this video can help you find a 12v switched source to power your radio when you turn on the vehicle.

legenddddd saved me trying to get my aftermarket radio working in my audi tt. same plug has the switched 12v, don’t think it’s the same wire though. cheers for the video :)

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I just got a 2007 A4 and the guy took his pioneer touchscreen out of the car, so I used the JVC radio out of my old car and when I hooked up RED > RED, YELLOW > YELLOW, BLACK > BLACK the radio would power on without the key in the ignition and wouldn't go off. Watched this video and seen you say they didn't put in a 12V SWITCHED wire for the radio, so I found a weird random green wire running from the dash. I hooked up the red wire coming out of my radio to that weird green wire and BOOM! radio turns on when I turn the key on and turns off when I turn the key off.

How did you remove the piece of trim above the radio? When you start the dash part of the video, that piece is already removed.

I ran my wire to the cigarette plug. Did you have issues with radio shutting off when volume gets high

What wire did you hook to the climate control? The red or ground wire?

Red for switched 12v

Did that but my radio still didn’t come on. Maybe there is something wrong with the radio I’m trying to put it. I did buy it used not new.

@@bradvanscyoc6085 run the red and yellow wire together to the power terminal on a battery and the ground to the negative terminal and if it powers on you know the head unit is good and problem lies with wiring
