He was outlining a Bmaj7 over a Bb7 1-6-2-5. I mean like LAYING into a B, and then playing B major scale stuff over Bb7. Too much sauce

Sax players often do so.
@paxwallacejazz6 жыл бұрын
supahsekzy well that gives you the b9,11,b13,tonic but that's nothing new it's that he is insisting on a more polytonal thing. I mean the alt scale is just one note different.

The reason is that the notes that come out of our instruments, the patterns we play, the scales we use, and the way that we articulate and even sound on our horns is a product of EVERYTHING we have ever been exposed to musically as well as being the product of all the things we have chosen to practice.

This was recorded in a TV studio in Edinburgh in 1983 and featured a young Scottish saxophonist who went on to be a major voice in the idiom.....on the evening that this was recorded he arrived at a gig we were booked for and he was "punch-drunk" and told me that he's just seen / heard the best sax player ever....he was right!

Altogether, he appeared on over 700 albums, either as a band member or a guest soloist. He put his stamp on numerous pop and rock recordings as a soloist. The Michael Brecker Band appeared in Pori Jazz 1998 Members: Brecker, Michael, sax Calderazzo, Joey, p Genus, James, b Peterson, Ralph, Dr. In the summer of 2004, Brecker was diagnosed with (MDS)

@bassdrumbone64 well my old private sax teacher was a bebop guy, not a post bop/contemporary jazz player. He rarely inserted tense chord harmonics like Michael brecker did at the beginning of his solo here. That's why my teacher would have got on me about that. He was a good teacher... helped me get good enough with jazz and improv to be in the maryland all state jazz band and get accepted to various reputable music schools w. scholarship offerings. Dont forget Jon Christiansen, also a legendary danish drummer. Think he, Jan Garbareak, and Palle Danielsson (swe) made some records with Keith Jarrett. Jon is very famous for his free drumming, often just melodic (?) with a extremly disguised (or non existing) beat, but hey? On this clipp he is tearing the house down! I LOVE BRECKER around this time, such a monster. Seen him live a few time (he was quite ill then) and it was so beautiful. Missed by every lover of jazzmusic...Best, Sandemose

. I finally realized that I NEVER would be able to and that is the beautiful thing about creating. Sure, you can learn their licks from a transcription or by using your ear(listening and figuring out the licks is the most beneficial way)and you can practice them until you are blue in the face. Then you can get on stage and try to paste those licks in every solo you have. Then you realize that making those licks fit cohesively into one of your solos is a hard thing to do
