During the musically transformative 90s, Moby was going through a transformation of his own. As the serious, sober Christian struggled to make it as a DJ in the burgeoning New York club scene, he could scarcely imagine the future ahead of him. Today he joins Shad to discuss "Porcelain" his painfully honest memoir that looks into his life as a young artist.

I'm socked at the thought of what he said: "Some of the things that you think will make you happy simply won't, and some of the things that you avoid sometimes will make you happy". Well, something like that. :D

I was on the early rave seen during the time Moby is talking about in he UK. Hes right. It was purely magical. We knew that we were all on to a huge change in music. It was so underground and like the biggest special secret ever. (Love) Doves weren't called Love Doves for any old reason. Beautiful memories. Then in the early to middle 1990's changed and it became quite heavy.

That Story of gentrification in citys could be told around the world! We hang out as kids in squated houses here in Dresden Neustadt, Germany, too. There was such a sweet comunity and the streets was just dirty, full of open places and so beutiful. But now its like, where to go?The rents are goung so high now that its getting harder and harder to life here, not to talk about places where we can meet like bars or clubs. And instead of a neighborhood full of artists, musicians, students and visionins we now just see more and more lawyers, businesspeople, tourists, Mecedises and rich people in the streets! I wished we would have fighted much harder for our comunity... SO if you still live in a place that is still like this somewhere in the world: Fight for it with all you have! If not, you will shure end up like New York, Dresden, Berlin or all the thousends of other citys around the world! But I'm afraid that sad story goes on and on...

@pineoandloeb

He would have never made his massively successful albums without going through the process of making Animal Rights as well I think so it goes back to what he said about turning those dark moments into some of the best. People may have hated it initially but it's importance to his life and career as an artist is essential.
