I can't believe I found this song on KZbin to this day of 2024. I love it, and I have been loving it since 1992, when my teacher of Spanish language played that song as a quiz. I was in Grade 9. What a lovely song.

In 1973, I bought this 45 rpm at the age of 14. On the "b" side is an English version titled "Touch the Wind". I've read that it isn't a literal translation, and the lyrics have nothing to do with each other. Fifty years later, I still own it and have loved it since I first heard it on AM radio! (The Spanish side was played all the time. English side, not so much! 🙂✌️)

Young people in the USA today are probably unaware of what an enormous, singular crossover hit this song was here, even among a largely English speaking audience who couldn't understand most of the words. A testament to the agelessness and barrier breaking power of what is likely the most beautiful popular song of all time.

Simply one of the most perfect songs in conception and execution ever written, in any language. This was the song that made me want to learn Spanish.
@Bushwalk66
@Bushwalk66 2 жыл бұрын
This song has been so popular; it is a beautiful melody; I remember when it came out; the lyrics though are too repetitive with the “it is you” phrase, the writers should have created other rhythmic phrases. Unfortunately many songs are written this way, even many by Céline Dion-to the point of awful repetition for the majority of some of Celine’s songs that the industry adheres to, which takes away from the creativity. Eres Tú is a beautiful song that inspired and still inspires the world. At the same time many singers from Spain were like The Spanish Invasion in Spanish speaking countries, as was the British Invasion here in the USA, was an amazing outpouring of Spain’s talent world wide. In Mexico, Spanish singers were more popular than Mexican singers. Most know about Julio Iglesias, and there is Charro (her famous Cuchi Cuchi phrase) who not only sang professionally, but studied guitar from Goya (if I remember correctly) - I saw her perform increadably professional classical guitar at the Los Angeles Greek Theater. Music stirs the soul. When I listen to Mocedades and other favorite music in Instrumental Orchestras, singers in Spanish and English, French, German, country, Yodeling, it lifts my heart to heaven. Such is the power of music to move the world.

@@Bushwalk66 very well said. Sometimes, in pop music, the repetition is enough to irritate a person so much they never want to hear it again. If the song gets made into "elevator music", and it plays while getting your teeth drilled, or standing in line, it's just too much to bear! However, I'll be the first to admit that when you like a pop song, the repetition and simplicity make it easier to sing along!

@Llampalleq The song was Spain's submission in the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest, and came in 2nd place. It was released as a single and made its way to America. I bought (and still have) the 45 when I was 14! The "b" side has an English version with lyrics unrelated to the original Spanish called "Touch the Wind". It wasn't bad, but didn't compare to the beautiful Spanish lyrics. 🙂✌️

I'm 64 and in 1973 I was on my dad's farm. And our workers were from Mexico. So naturally I spoke Mexican which is far different than Castilian Spanish. But this song is about a love so deep. That it is in every thought action waking moment and dreams. I've searched my whole life for this and found I expected to much. It's always there just let it flow. Still to this day mocedades is the group and Eres TU is the love song of all time.

I have become quite obsessed with this song since finding it again...I was 10ish years old when it was first released, and played it repeatedly to learn it phonetically...the English version (Touch the Wind) never came close to the magic of the original Spanish...so beautiful!
