I'm in an applied program and I'm wondering if the questions based on a time you did worked on a project from start to finish. I was also a Realtor and have some experience in the sales field. On the other side of the coin, my applied program built a web portal for a program at my school using agile methodologies. What would be a better fit to answer the question?

Great question! So product has a few different reasons to interact with sales... PM's often get asked by sales to demo new product capabilities, present the product roadmap, or to get on a call with a prospect and learn their use cases and problems that they need solved. Product managers will also ingest feature requests or feedback from the sales team, and will use that insight to help inform future product development. I've also been in situations where PM's are responsible for training in the sales team on new product features, as sales and solutions consultants need to know how to effectively sell new product enhancements.

Thanks Alisa for ur reply!So I applied for a PM role for a completely new product in company’s portfolio and they wanted to know how I will encourage the sales team to engage and start selling the new product. I assumed it is a challenge especially when sales people are busy selling many other products. I understood from interviewer’s perspective that the sales team is my most important (internal) stakeholder, right after the customer. Is it something universal or industry-specific? What are your thoughts about this?
