I think that scenario works in our favor. If there's one of the two QB's available the Jets might want to leap frog the Raiders for Sanders. Or the Raiders might panic and move up. It won't get us 4 #1 picks but it could get us a few day 2 picks and this draft is loaded in defense. It's not bad in the OL as phil has 9 coming off the board in the first round. So we trade back and still get a T and then we can build a lot with say 6 top 100 picks.

There’s no value in the second round for WR. However, there happens to be a LOT of second round value at OL. The OL in the first round also happen to have lower ceilings than in previous years. If Carter and Hunter are off the board at 4, Tet is the easy choice.
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Generally speaking, that's not the case. Tackles, like QBs, tend to climb the closer we get to the draft. This isn't a loaded tackle class. May have more legit backups than normal on Day 2. But starting-caliber tackles? Maybe. But historically that's wishful thinking. And this class isn't loaded with high-end talent at that position.
@JBrankles10 күн бұрын
@ I hear what your saying, but our offensive line is HORRENDOUS, any improvements will make our line much better. Plus there’s a couple of free agents we could get. Phil, always a terrific show....clearly we need more talent...we have one or two (likely) elite players (Gonzo and Maye) and we need stud tackle and we need a OT (left and/or right) and a pass rusher .....so I believe we grab one of those needs in Free agency (OT) and then the second in round 1 (really hoping we get Carter). That gives us 4 Elite players and then use round round 2 ,3, 3 to do a major upgrade on WR, DL, LB and hope we get a little lucky. If we get lucky...we are off to the races

I'm looking for team success you folk are focus purely on Drake Maye success.. that's not how teams work . This year you could've grabbed Sheduer sanders at a lower pick possibly ..according to all the focus slander I'm hearing on his name for a successful and nfl ready prospect that he is .. and the same people were going gahgah over Mac Jones who in my opinion isn't better than Sheduer ..fix your O Line and you won't need a scrambling Qb .. although they are the next wave lol always been.. Also the hypocrisy from Phil .. Mc million isn't a generational talent and you respected him more in your details ..but "kicked Dirt " on sheduer for in your opinion not being that.. in a sport where you believe QB is the most important position.. 😅 just looks like bias

Great video and thoughts here. Thanks. Joe

I like the trend of QBs falling may allow the Patriots to auction off pick 4 for the 1st/2nd QB off the board. Raiders (pick 6), Jets (pick 7) and Saints (pick 9) need a QB from this draft. We need more bites at the apple (which is why winning against the Bills was maddening) and the talent in this draft isn't elite. I'm sorry it's just that simple. It's a down year. The Jets seem to be the most desperate as they must move on from Aaron Rodgers. I'm fine with Will Campbell, I just think we can get him lower than pick 4. I'd be upset if we don't manipulate the board in a way that gets us another top 2 round pick in this or next year's draft. Trade pick 4 to the Jets for Pick 7 + 42. Take Will Campbell at pick 7 (or best available of him and Banks Jr.) and double up your picks in 2nd round. I'd rather get proven WR via free agency then the draft.

This draft will be heavily determined by our actions in free agency and trades. All data points to the fact you only need to be average at O-Line to be productive. A true WR1 is a much bigger force multiplier than an OT. Hopefully they grab WR and OT in FA/Trades, then they can sit at 4 a take whomever they think is the most "can't miss" prospect. Personally I hope they look at which WR has the best stats in regard to route separation and release against press. If a player can't separate in college, he certainly won't be open in the NFL.

@philperry3788 I think you take best player available in either Graham or Johnson in that case. Unfortunately this draft class is just not strong at tackle or Wr and if you use a top 4 pick on a guy that only plays guard (when the patriots will have strange and onwenu already locked into those spots) you've misused prime draft capital. It'd be a tough spot to be in but with barmore's injury and Jones leaving this year cb or DT would fill big needs. I just don't want to take a gamble when this team needs so many pieces.

One of the benefits of having a mobile QB like Drake is a top flight OL is not essential as shown by last year when he had decent success with a truly abysmal OL. I would look at the lesser known Tackle FA like Alaric Jackson of the Rams who graded out as PFF's 18th ranked at that position or Dan Moore of the Steelers who ranked 42nd if they get to FA. KC for one example does not have exceptional tackles. To me drafting a player who may have end up as guard at #4 would be a disaster. I don't see a sure fire top T in this draft similar to the QB position. Trade down or take Mason Graham who is the other blue chip talent in the draft.

Depending on how free agency goes it’s OL or tet mcmillen
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
I like building through the trenches with a pick that high. But McMillan is enticing.
@taylermike10 күн бұрын
@ agreed. I think protecting Drake is priority 1A and getting him some weapons should be priority 1B
@carlosalmonte246611 күн бұрын
Im on the side that says we take graham or mcmilan. And really address the line in free agency. And if possible do anything we can to trade back up for a young tackle to develop
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Getting the line taken care of before the draft would be ideal.
@robertarcher430810 күн бұрын
They should target Alaric Jackson, the 26-year-old LT from the Rams in free agency and a receiver such as Darius Slayton, then address the defense in the draft using pick #4 for to start to grab either Abdul Carter or Mason Graham. Graham could help the run and pass defense and allow the team to have an interior defensive line with two disruptive players if Barmore is able to come back healthy.
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Alaric is OK. Not sure he's a dependable long-term starter there. Would be sort of a cost-effective secondary option if you get into a bind. I'd start with Ronnie Stanley and go from there.

I’d kill for Tee Higgins

Hope Mike Vrabel and his NY Giants new sidekick are in the center of the table on this upcoming draft. Wolf? Rarely see or hear from him? His vote should count less than Vrabel. Campbell or Banks...let Vrabel decide. I've watched Kevin Banks at Texas for 3 years and he showed up every game....bunch of awards, high character guy, 3 year starter;.....Campbell no chance to watch but he's obviously in the conversation. Thanks Phil. Very glad it's not my decision 🤪🤗🤔

Thanks for watching, Bailey!

Other that CB and QB they should take the best available player at 4 unless another team wants to get silly with a trade. We have holes everywhere, at least you will have a stud at #4 overall if you don't overthink it.
@DrigoArtsFX11 күн бұрын
They should trade down if Hunter and Carter are gone. NO OT is worth 4th overall this year.
@edbrit489311 күн бұрын
So wrong! 2nd most important position behind QB!
@CosmicBoy139 күн бұрын
At #4 All I will take is Abdul Carter or Mason Graham. I'd trade down and get draft capital for next year's draft if I can't grab either of them.
@jakestring602711 күн бұрын
In my ideal world, we trade down to 6 or 9 (Saints or Raiders both QB needy), draft will campbell, trade back up for Tyler Warren or Luther Burden if they slip past 15
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Clever!
@oldernu125010 күн бұрын
Tyler is very good, sure hands. Possible FB? Can see 3 TE sets if WRs aren’t as good.
@jakestring602710 күн бұрын
@ Awesome hands , size, yac, was a qb in college so the trick play potential is there, took snaps out of the backfield plenty of times, used as a fullback sometimes, would never miss a 4th & 1 again thats for sure

Phil: what would Raiders give for Milton? Meyers and second round draft pick?
@Silentmogar10 күн бұрын
Free agency priorities I would say 4 guys Stanley Higgins Sweat Chase young Then draft Graham if this situation happens in the draft. Solidify the Oline got a main weapon, got a dangerous d line going into next year

Phil,,there's also the idea of trading down two or three times in the first til around twenty and getting or later and getting the tackle there while giving yourself another 5 or 6 picks in the second and third rounds combined! There's good defensive players all over these rounds.. This is ten times the better draft at receiver and left tackle than last year..If things are handled properly in free agency,then drafting shouldn't be an issue....For me,,Ravens can't afford Ronnie Stanley as they sit only 17 mil over the cap...
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
They should be into the idea of trading down and then maybe back UP to get the guy they want.

Maybe Titans GM is hyping up a certain QB as a generational talent to not surprise people when they take one

Are you smoking something Phil? He may be the best (your opinion) but there are many more that are as good or just a notch down, but still very good. Some very big. 6'8" monsters. Sometimes a Monster takes the place of talent. He's just unmovable. So with all that said. The pick has to be McMillan out of Arizona!!! A true target for Drake to throw to for the next 5 years. Beef this kid up and he may be the next Megatron!
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Have to be able to move at that position. To me, Campbell looks like the best combination of size (even if his arms aren't long) and athleticism to play OT
@ericpowers65098 күн бұрын
@@philperry3788 So you don't want a number one wide receiver to throw to for the next 5 years on the cheap? Lot and lots of O Lineman in this draft. For every receiver that goes in the first round, there will be 5 offensive lineman to pick from in the latter rounds. Vrabel is defence. Whoever he drafts I'm sure he'll get the best out of him.
@tedtucholski-u2w11 күн бұрын
Senator, here are 3 players the Pats need to pursue in the draft. OT Kelvin Banks Jr, OT Charles Grant and WR Savion Willams. Pats should trade back to 9 with New Orleans and get their #1, 2nd and 4th round picks for the Pats #1, This was a trade accepted using the PFF Mock draft simulator. Then get OT Banks. Banks is as good or better than Campbell
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
Wouldn't hate that.
@tedtucholski-u2w9 күн бұрын
@@philperry3788 I want your opinion on this please. I feel in order for New England to have a truly excellent draft, they must be flexible and prepared to make deals, moving up and down the draft board. Like the Miami Dolphins team has done over the last couple of drafts. Example: I think they need to trade down, get more picks and still get an OT like Banks. However, if Abdul Carter is sitting at #4, you draft him. Unless another team will trade you a ransom to get Carter. That's being flexible, it also means you must anticipate what other teams needs will be. This mindset is something the Pats have been poor at for around 10 years.

Here's my plan. Wait for Dane Brugler's Big Board and pick whoever he has highest at a position of need. I guarantee this will work better than what Matt Groh has for us.

If you were going to take Hunter at 1 what’s wrong with Johnson at 4. A pro who you know, like Gonzalez, will hit.
@Rockdog980911 күн бұрын
Pats need to take OT Campbell. I think Carter is too small and likely gone anyway. Tet is next BUST. I want nothing to do with another "contested catch" WR. That only means he can't separate. Teams with OTs don't let them go so MUST draft one high. Prefer to slide back a few spots and take Campbell or Simmons but Campbell is the pick if can't move.
@philperry378810 күн бұрын

I'm hearing that none of the OTs are worth a top 10 pick. And you're taking a guy with short arms that might be a guard, when you recently drafted a guard with a first round pick? Crazy. Sign the best veteran available - or two of them - and draft the best available player.
@KevanBrose11 күн бұрын
If cam or sanders is still on the board convince the raiders or saints a team in the teens or 20s like the seahawks wanna move up and your gonna do a deal but would rather stay in the top 10 if they wanna make a deal.

Think you have to be careful not to go too far back.

@philperry3788 raiders at 6 saints at 9 would be my target. Bears at 10 are gonna want a tackle so I'd be asking for a lot if I move further down than 9

Belichick drafted Solder and Sea Bass and that set the line for years, he went away from that concept , and it cost him his job. Donot pass on a Tackle at number four.

Hear me out: Receivers are always overpaid. Void trading for one and signing one in free agency. Throw your money at lineman, offer them undeniable money, or trade for them. Draft Tet McMillan, a guy who shows elite qualities and can be an elite WR for 5 years. Use the rest of the draft for Defense, line and TE
@philperry378810 күн бұрын
I like him. Just don't see it happening with Vrabel/Wolf/Cowden in charge.
@gc17611 күн бұрын
If you go LT then you gotta trade down. There's not a single LT in this draft that is worthy of a top 10 pick. They are very good at best. TMac is the pick if you're selecting 4th.

The generational talent is Carter. That’s obvious because of what disrupting the game means today. I don’t have a problem missing out on a top pick as long as they get the best offensive lineman available. If they had the first pick, they would mess it up.
